The State explains that it had personal emails between South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) and a woman in Argentina for six months but was not sure they were real.
"However, attempts to verify the e-mails -- from an anonymous source -- were fruitless, until Wednesday."
The New York Times reports The State received its second tip from an airline passenger who said, "We've seen your
governor on an airplane. He's not on the Appalachian Trail." This
tipster suggested that the governor would be returning from Argentina.
