Conyers Denies Switching Position for Wife's Bribe

Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) "denied allegations of impropriety in the wake of his wife's admission that she accepted bribes in exchange for vote on a key contract while she was on the Detroit City Council," the Detroit News reports.

Monica Conyers "pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges last week. She was also implicated in another potential bribery case involving a controversial deep injection well... John Conyers later appeared to change his position on the same well."

Mrs. Conyers is expected to face up to five years in federal prison.

Taegan D. Goddard is the founder of Political Wire, one of the earliest and most influential political web sites.

Goddard earned degrees from Vassar College and Harvard University. He lives in New York with his wife and three sons.
