Daily Pulse on Health Care Politics

Politico says it is a "make-or-break week" for President Obama on health care reform. CQ Politics calls it a " a momentous week."

The Washington Post reports the administration "has launched a new phase of its strategy designed to dramatically increase public pressure on Congress: all Obama, all the time." He's expected to several speeches on the issue this week.

Behind the scenes, Bloomberg reports the president, who won several key victories in congressional committees last week, "is now ramping up pressure on the congressional panel that may matter the most."

"The Senate Finance Committee, which is seeking a bipartisan compromise, has failed to reach an agreement even as two House committees and a Senate panel cleared their versions of the legislation with only Democratic approval. Chairman Max Baucus said a deal will come this week at the earliest, a month after he had planned to finish a draft and get a panel vote."

However, Roll Call reports that White House officials over the weekend "appeared to soften their demand that the House and Senate pass health care bills by the August recess as they deflected criticism that the measures fail to control costs."
