Special Election Primary in California Today

A new SurveyUSA poll in today's special primary election in CA-10 finds David Harmer (R) and John Garamendi (D) leading their respective party's races to replace former Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-CA), who took a post in the Obama administration.

While Harmer is beating his nearest Republican challenger 4 to 1, three Democrats are bunched up, with Garamendi at 25%, Mark DeSaulnier (D) at 16%, and Joan Buchanan (D) at 12%.

Analysis: "Because turnout in a stand-alone special primary election is difficult to predict, and because voters may vote for any candidate, regardless of their own party affiliation, it is possible that candidates will not finish in the order shown here... Assuming no candidate takes a majority of votes in the open primary, the top finishing candidate from each party will appear on the November general election ballot."

Polls close at 8 p.m. Pacific time.
