A new Pew Research poll finds Americans "are extremely displeased with Congress" with just 37% having a favorable opinion of Congress and 52% holding an unfavorable view. This is a new low in more than two decades of similar Pew surveys.
In the generic congressional ballot, 45% say they would vote for a Democratic candidate in their district while 44% say they would vote for a Republican.
Four years ago, Democrats led in the generic congressional ballot by 52% to 40% and
went on to regain control of
Congress the following November. Most of the shift in voting intentions since the 2006 election cycle has occurred among political independents.
