Paterson Refuses to Say White House Pushing Him

At the start of a week of high visibility events, New York Gov. David Paterson appeared on Meet the Press and insisted he was running for election next year despite reports the White House tried to push him out of the race.

Said Paterson: "I'm not going to run away from a fight when I know who I'm fighting for."

The New York Times reports he "made an effort to portray himself as a victim of a heavy-handed White House that has inappropriately intruded into a local matter.

However, he "appeared uneasy at times" and "did not once crack a smile." And when host David Gregory tried to get him to confirm the White House doesn't want him to run, he demurred, "I can't say that, David... I don't know that."
