Daily Pulse: Final Push for the Public Option

"The forces in favor of a public health insurance option roared back Thursday on Capitol Hill after weeks when their cause looked bleak," Politico reports. "Progressives in both houses showed they won't go down without a fight."

On the House side, Roll Call notes Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) "has started making her final argument for a robust public insurance option in a health care overhaul, framing the debate over the provision as a fight between insurance companies and the middle class,"

Pelosi said a decision on the final shape of the provision is coming "in the next few days."

Meanwhile, The Hill notes Pelosi is counting votes and "informed her caucus that she will be asking which of the various public options members can support, or if they cannot support any at all."

"The nose-counting effort will involve the Democratic whip operation, the Congressional Progressive Caucus and Pelosi herself."

On the Senate side, TPM reports Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) may be "working the inside game for the public option."
