A new Southern Media and Opinion Research poll in Louisiana shows Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) with a double-digit lead in his 2010 re-election bid over challenger Rep. Charlie Melancon (D-LA), 48% to 36%, with 17% still undecided.
Analysis: "The poll showed that Melancon has room to grow. About 36 percent of respondents gave him a good or excellent rating, while 41.5 percent said they were either not familiar with him or did not have an answer. Vitter received a 57 percent favorability rating, with only 5.5 percent of respondents saying they were not familiar with him or did not have an answer."
