NY-23 Watch

The early returns show Bill Owens (D) with a decent lead over Doug Hoffman (C). A win for Democrats in this race would go a long way toward changing the storyline from tonight.

The Watertown Daily Times has the latest vote tally.

Update: A possible wild card in this race is that there are still more than 10,000 absentee votes to still be counted.

In addition, WSYR-TV reports some voting machines were impounded because they were not working properly.

Meanwhile, the Washington Independent reports the Watertown mayor, a key Hoffman supporter, says Hoffman has lost.

Update II: With so many absentee ballots still outstanding, don't expect this race to be called tonight, though it does look very good for Owens.

Update III: Fox News calls the race for Owens.
