Wisconsin Governor's Race Wide Open

A new Public Policy Polling survey shows that the race to replace Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle (D) is already shaping up to be one of the most hotly contested of 2010. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) holds a slight lead over two of his potential Republican opponents, and is in a dead heat with the third.

Barrett leads former Gov. Tommy Thompson (R) 46% to 41%, tops former Rep. Mark Neumann (R), 46% to 39%, and is tied with Scott Walker (R) at 40%.

But the race could still change dramatically as the candidates become better known to Wisconsin voters. A full 57% of those polled felt they didn't know Neumann well enough to form an opinion about him. 48% and 44% said the same about Barrett and Walker respectively.
