Runoff for Houston Mayor

Houston residents will vote Saturday in a tight runoff for mayor, reports the Houston Chronicle. The two candidates are both Democrats: City Controller Annise Parker, who would be the first lesbian mayor of a major American city, and former City Attorney Gene Locke.

A Rice University survey showed Parker leading Locke, 49% to 36%.

A Houston Chronicle poll found Parker ahead by a smaller margin, 42% to 36%.
