Basil Paterson, father of New York Gov. David Paterson (D), "raised the issue of Andrew Cuomo's racially divisive 2002 campaign against then-state Comptroller Carl McCall -- and suggested that the attorney general could lose the black vote and the support of black leaders if he takes on his son in next year's gubernatorial primary," the New York Post reports.
Said the elder Patertson: "When Andrew came back from Washington [as HUD secretary], having never run for public office, and challenged a highly qualified black man for governor, H. Carl McCall... it left a sour taste."
