Did Illinois Democrats Nominate the Weaker Candidate?

An internal Magellan Strategies (R) poll released by Rep. Mark Kirk's (R) U.S. Senate campaign suggests Illinois Democrats picked the weaker candidate in their primary on Tuesday.

Kirk beats Alexi Giannoulias by 12 points, (D), 47% to 35%, but only held a five point lead over the defeated David Hoffman (D), 42% to 37%.

However, a new Rasmussen poll finds Kirk leading Giannoulias by just six points, 46% to 40%.
