Brown Backs Democrats On Jobs Bill

First Read breaks the news that newly-elected Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) "intends to vote with Democrats" later today on cloture for the pared down jobs bill to be presented by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).

Democrats will need Republican support if they hope to reach the 60-vote threshold for cloture, especially with Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) absent while he undergoes cancer treatment.

Update: Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Sen. Kit Bond (R-M) and Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH) also supported the bill giving Democrats the 60 votes they needed. Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) voted against the bill.

Final passage is expected on Wednesday.
