Stupak Says Deal Close

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) said this morning that he is close to striking a deal with the White House on abortion provisions, The Hill reports.

Said Stupak: "We are close to getting something done... We're close but we're not there yet."

"The possible deal would focus on an executive order that would specify there would be no public funding for abortions in the health care bill."

Stupak claims to have eight votes to support the bill if he gets a deal. By nearly every count, that would give Democrats the votes they need.
