New Yorkers Want Spitzer Back

A new Public Policy Polling survey shows that New Yorkers would rather have Eliot Spitzer (D) back as their governor, despite the prostitution scandal that led to his resignation.

Among New York voters, 45% say Spitzer would have done a better job the past two years than his successor, Gov. David Paterson (D), while Paterson gets 28% support. Even Republicans and independents prefer Spitzer by narrow margins.

"Eliot Spitzer has been openly flirting with a possible future return to elective office, and he would probably fare well in a Democratic primary. But the numbers statewide are more an indication that New Yorkers overall would simply prefer anyone else to David Paterson than that they love Spitzer."
