Bachmann May Join 2012 Field

CNN reports that Rep. Michele Bachmann, the chair of the House Tea Party caucus, is "increasingly serious" about jumping into the Republican presidential field.

"Bachmann has already met with prominent interest groups and well-placed officials in early caucus and primary states of Iowa and South Carolina, where both Tea Partiers and Republican regulars have been impressed by her easy rapport with conservative crowds. The trips are having an acute impact on Bachmann's thinking about the presidential race, those around her say."

Shaking up the field: An open question is whether a Bachmann candidacy would fill the vacuum left if Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin choose not to run, possibly closing the door on other second tier candidates hoping to pick up the Tea Party vote.
