The New York Times reports that Newt Gingrich "recently requested transcripts of Franklin D. Roosevelt's press conferences to study his ability to influence his coverage. Reporters often quoted President Roosevelt without identifying him."
Following that strategy, Gingrich offered himself as an anonymous source in a New Hampshire Union Leader story last week to reply to criticism by supporters of Mitt Romney. The newspaper quoted a source identified as "a senior aide in the Gingrich campaign," which was actually Gingrich.
