Optimism on Economy Drops

A new CNN/Opinion Research poll finds optimism about how things are going in the country now at 36% -- down seven points from April -- with 63% saying things are going poorly.

In addition, the number of people who say that the economy is starting to recover has dropped five points since April, from 24% to 19%, while the number who say that the economy is still in a downturn is up six points to 39%.

However, the Washington Post reports "a flurry of fresh data suggest key sectors of the economy might be gaining traction, just as the battle for the White House enters the final round."
