Sam Patten, who pleaded guilty earlier today for failing to register as a foreign lobbyist, also agreed that he “had steered an illegal foreign donation to Donald Trump’s inauguration, telling prosecutors that he arranged for an American citizen to act as a ‘straw donor‘ to give $50,000 to Trump’s inauguration in place of a Ukrainian businessman who was legally barred from contributing to the event,” the Washington Post reports.
New York Times: “Prosecutors disclosed that the inauguration tickets were worth $50,000 and were purchased with funds that flowed through a Cypriot bank account. Prosecutors did not name the foreigners involved. However, the tickets were purchased for Konstantin V. Kilimnik, a Russian political operative believed to have ties to a Russian intelligence agency, and a Ukranian oligarch.”
Patten has agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors.
