U.S. and Israel Brace for Retaliation by Iran
Israel and the U.S. are convinced Iran is preparing to retaliate for the Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate in Syria, CBS News reports.

“The attack is likely to come between now and the end of Ramadan next week.”
Postcard from Hawaii
We’ve been in Hawaii on a very active vacation this week. We logged approximately 75 miles of biking on the big island — including 42 miles of the Iron Man course — a 5-mile hike across the crater of a volcano (as seen above) and a really fun snorkeling trip on kayaks.
It was a wonderful break before the presidential campaign really heats up.
We are now making our way back to New York — so thanks for dealing with the sporadic posting schedule. Political Wire will be back to normal on Monday.

Trump Intrigued by the Idea of Trump-Kennedy 2024
New York Times: “Mr. Trump’s interest in Mr. Kennedy has centered almost exclusively on the potential power of the branding. He has collected opinions from those around him about whether combining the two famous last names on a single presidential ticket could result in some kind of political magic, according to the people familiar with the conversations.”
“Mr. Trump has long been intrigued by the Kennedy political dynasty. As president, he often told visitors that he sat at the same Oval Office desk as John F. Kennedy, and he regularly invoked the former president during White House events, including announcements of new tax policies and the ceremonial pardoning of a Thanksgiving turkey.”

“Without the evidence or the votes to impeach the president, at this point there is no clear consensus on how – or even when – to end the Republican-led impeachment inquiry.”

Nebraska Unlikely to Change Electoral System
“A late push to change Nebraska’s unusual electoral vote system appears doomed for now — despite the urging of former president Donald Trump and his allies, who saw an opportunity to gain an advantage in his rematch against President Biden, the Washington Post reports.
NBC News: “Speaker John Arch said on the floor Friday morning that amendments attaching entire bills to other measures will no longer be accepted, as the unicameral body is running out of time to process legislation before its session ends April 18.”

Biden Gave Ultimatum to Bibi

He added: “Then, you know, put the ones who broke the law in jail and let’s move on.”
FBI Examining Free Airfare Upgrades Received by Adams
“Federal authorities investigating Mayor Eric Adams’s campaign fund-raising have been examining valuable flight upgrades they believe he received from Turkish Airlines that elevated him to its highest class of seats available on international trips,” the New York Times reports.

Tensions Flare Between Jack Smith and Aileen Cannon
“Special counsel Jack Smith is palpably frustrated with Judge Aileen Cannon after several confounding rulings — and lengthy bouts of judicial indecision — have threatened to derail his case against Donald Trump for stashing classified secrets at Mar-a-Lago,” Politico reports.
“The long-simmering tension came to a boil this week in a court filing in which Smith’s team sharply questioned the judge’s willingness to entertain a legal theory that Trump has advanced in a bid to dismiss the case. Prosecutors called the theory ‘pure fiction,’ and their submission featured tartly worded threats to appeal any adverse decision. They also demanded that Cannon decide quickly to prevent her from hamstringing the prosecution on the eve of trial.”
“Cannon shot back Thursday, revealing her own frustrations with Smith’s team, saying in a prickly order that the demand for a hurried decision was ‘unprecedented and unjust.’”
