Ivanka Mixes Politics and Business

April 18, 2017 at 10:30 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Associated Press: “On April 6, Ivanka Trump’s company won provisional approval from the Chinese government for three new trademarks, giving it monopoly rights to sell Ivanka brand jewelry, bags and spa services in the world’s second-largest economy. “In the weeks following her father’s inauguration, Ivanka Trump quietly reached out to the president of Planned Parenthood seeking common ground on the contentious issue of abortion,” Politico reports.

“Their under-the-radar meeting — a rarity between a well-known Democratic activist and a close adviser to a Republican president — has not been previously reported.”

Extra Bonus Quote of the Day

April 4, 2017 at 8:38 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“If being complicit is wanting to, is wanting to be a force for good and to make a positive impact then I’m complicit. I don’t know that the critics who may say that of me, if they found themselves in this very unique and unprecedented situation that I am now in, would do any differently than I am doing.”

Trump and Kushner Worth at Least $741 million

March 31, 2017 at 7:53 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s daughter and son-in-law, will remain the beneficiaries of a sprawling real estate and investment business still worth as much as $741 million, despite their new government responsibilities, according to ethics filings released by the White House Friday night,” the New York Times reports.

“Ms. Trump will also maintain a stake in the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. The hotel, just down the street from the White House, has drawn protests from ethics experts who worry that foreign governments or special interests could stay there in order to curry favor with the administration.”

“It is unclear how Ms. Trump would earn income from that stake. Mr. Kushner’s financial disclosures say that Ms. Trump earned between $1 million and $5 million from January 2016 to March 2017, and puts the value of her stake at between $5 million and $25 million.”

Associated Press: “Ivanka Trump is planning a trip to Germany to attend a summit on the economic empowerment of women… The first daughter was invited by German Chancellor Angela Merkel during Merkel’s recent White House visit, said the official, who was not authorized to discuss details of the trip by name and spoke on the condition of anonymity. The W20 summit, a women-focused effort within the Group of 20 countries, will be held in Berlin in late April. Trump’s plans are still being worked out, but she hopes to study successful apprenticeship programs during her visit.”

“Ivanka Trump, who moved to Washington, D.C., saying she would play no formal role in her father’s administration, is now officially setting up shop in the White House,” Politico reports.

“The powerful first daughter has secured her own office on the West Wing’s second floor — a space next to senior adviser Dina Powell, who was recently promoted to a position on the National Security Council. She is also in the process of obtaining a security clearance, and is set to receive government-issued communications devices this week.”

Ivanka Trump Quashes Speculation She’ll Be First Lady

January 19, 2017 at 3:03 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Ivanka Trump told ABC News that it is “inappropriate” to speculate that she will effectively serve as first lady in her father’s administration and occupy an office in the East Wing.

Said Trump: “I think it’s an inappropriate observation. There’s one first lady and she’ll do remarkable things.”

Ivanka’s Grand Plan

January 11, 2017 at 7:44 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Mike Allen: “Following her decision not to take a formal White House role, Ivanka Trump plans to stay out of the spotlight for a few months as her family moves to D.C., hoping the temperature goes down on nepotism questions involving her husband, Jared Kushner. But then she’ll begin taking high-profile stands on policies aimed at women’s entrepreneurship and economic empowerment. A well-wired source tells me her focus will be consistent with her brand: issues affecting women who work, including family leave and equal pay.”

“Behind the scenes, Ivanka is moving to put a high-powered, high-level staffer inside the White House to help her cause. My sources tell me her first and likely choice is Goldman Sachs exec Dina Powell, who runs the firm’s 10,000 Women and 10,000 Small Businesses, and was in charge of presidential personnel for George W. Bush.”

Ivanka Trump Will Live Near Obamas

January 3, 2017 at 2:51 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

A real estate broker tells the Washingtonian that Ivanka Trump bought a $5.5 million house in Washington, D.C.

The broker “would not disclose the house’s location, citing contractual obligations to his client not to share that information. However, multiple real-estate sources say Trump and husband Jared Kushner will move into 2449 Tracy Pl, NW, in Kalorama. That will put the couple less than two blocks from the Obamas, who will reportedly move here post-White House.”

Ivanka Trump Will Move to Washington, DC

December 5, 2016 at 10:20 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, are house hunting in Washington as they look to move from New York City to D.C., CNN has learned.

“The couple’s planned move with their three children reflects the expectation that Kushner will serve as an adviser to President-elect Donald Trump in some capacity, though the precise role — potentially complicated by nepotism laws — remains to be seen.”

Ivanka May Play Big Role in the White House

December 3, 2016 at 12:11 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “When Nancy Pelosi, the minority leader of the House of Representatives, called Donald Trump shortly after the Nov. 8 election, they talked about domestic policy and infrastructure. But when Ms. Pelosi raised the specific subject of women’s issues, the president-elect did something unexpected: He handed the phone over to another person in the room — his 35-year-old daughter, Ivanka.”

Ivanka Trump Will Champion Liberal Causes

December 1, 2016 at 6:09 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Ivanka Trump “is now poised to be the first ‘first daughter’ in modern history to play a larger public role than the first lady. And she’s positioning herself exactly as she did that weekend — as a bridge to moderates and liberals disgusted and depressed with the tone and tenor of the new leader of the free world,” Politico reports.

“And the ambitious daughter, who once plotted her career around international brand domination, is planning to take on an even heavier lift. Ivanka wants to make climate change — which her father has called a hoax perpetuated by the Chinese — one of her signature issues, a source close to her told Politico. The source said Ivanka is in the early stages of exploring how to use her spotlight to speak out on the issue.”
