Politics Extra
The first issue of the Politics Extra newsletter was sent out last night. You can check it out here.
Why Politics Extra?
The response to the Politics Extra newsletter has been incredible. Thanks to everyone who has already signed up.
Several readers have wondered what sparked this new companion to Political Wire.
There are three reasons:
- The end-of-day wrap up for members — while extremely popular — doesn’t quite fit on a site that’s continuously updated. As soon as it was posted each day, it was quickly buried with new stories.
- The newsletter offers the chance to expand Political Wire’s audience by leveraging Substack’s platform.
- I love to experiment with new ideas.
If you haven’t signed up, please do. I think you’ll like it.
Oh yeah, it’s also free for all readers.
A Political Wire Newsletter: Politics Extra
Starting next week, I’m launching a newsletter called Politics Extra.
The newsletter will feature Peter Orvetti’s very popular end-of-day wrap up — which will no longer run on Political Wire — so you’ll need to subscribe to the newsletter to get it.
And there will be extras.
Oh yeah, it’s also free for all readers. Sign up now!
One Side Is Unified, the Other Is Divided
I enjoyed talking to John Howell this evening about the big political stories this week.
The Early Days of Political Wire
I recently discussed on the Creative Independents podcast why I started Political Wire and what I think makes it so special.
Spoiler alert: It’s you guys.

The Rest of the News
There’s no better way to keep up with news outside of politics than Chris Riback’s Newsletter.
Chris and I have known each other for 30 years and I can assure you there’s no one with better news judgement.
And he’s just announced “Deep Dives” where he takes a closer look at one big issue. The first one is about ChatGPT, the phenomenal machine learning program.
The newsletter is normally $99 a year. But Chris is offering new subscribers a ridiculous deal of just $19.

Postcard from Buenos Aires
We’re headed back home after nearly a week in Buenos Aires, a beautiful city that feels very much like it’s in Europe.
In addition to seeing our son, who has been living here, we saw Eva Peron’s grave at the famous Recoleta Cemetery and the painting of Che Guevara made famous by t-shirts around the world. And we ate at some outstanding restaurants, including Don Julio, widely regarded as one of the great steakhouses in the entire world.
But the most striking thing about walking around Buenos Aires are the number of dogs. I’m not sure I’ve ever been to a more dog-friendly city.
It’s probably not a coincidence that the people are wonderful too.
