Rest In Peace Brad
My dear brother passed away today, just a day after his 54th birthday.
If you asked anyone who knew Brad to describe him in one word, it would be kind. Brad was a big guy and rather tough looking, but he was the human version of Ferdinand the Bull. He had a big heart and not a mean bone in his body.
He was also funny. Brad’s wicked sense of humor made us laugh all the time.
All of this is remarkable for someone who had an extremely hard life. As a child, Brad likely had undiagnosed autism which made school and social interactions much harder. As an adult, he overcame drug and alcohol addiction. Brad also suffered from diabetes which led to multiple amputations and a cascading series of health problems which ultimately caused his death at such a young age.
Brad faced pain that few of us could ever understand. He was exceptionally brave. He was strong. But what I’ll remember forever is his kindness.
Happy Thanksgiving!
On this uniquely American holiday, I hope you’re able to have a fantastic time with family and friends.
But I also know that’s not possible for everyone. For some, this day may be especially hard. If that’s you, please know that we are pulling for you.
I’m so grateful that so many of you choose to spend part of your day here.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Postcard from Paris
We’re headed back to New York after a wonderful trip to Paris. We went to the Louvre, the Pompidou Centre and the Army Museum. We explored many neighborhoods and ate good food. Most important, we had great family time.
And even though our trip was in the middle of a pandemic — France is experiencing a new surge of the Delta variant — we felt reasonably safe because you needed “le pass sanitaire” to get in anywhere.
So while the headlines show that 235,000 took to the Paris streets to protest the vaccine requirement last weekend, the untold story is that many more than that are getting vaccinated every day so that they can enjoy their favorite bistro or take public transportation. It seems like a pretty good policy.
For members, I’ll put up some pictures and observations from our trip in The Cloakroom over the next few days.
