Michael Cohen was returned to prison because he declined “to sign a home confinement contract that required him to promise he wouldn’t speak to any journalists, use social media or publish a tell-all book about Trump for the duration of his sentence,” the New York Daily News reports.
Don Jr. Plans Convention Week Book
Donald Trump Jr., in quarantine since girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle tested positive for the coronavirus, told Mike Allen he’s used the time to finish a book that he’ll self-publish the week of the Republican convention.
The book will be called Liberal Privilege and will be self-published as “a shot across the bow” to traditional publishers.
The audio book will be read by Guilfoyle.
Judge Extends Restraining Order Against Mary Trump
“A New York judge has extended a temporary restraining order against Mary Trump until Monday, a day before the release of her tell-all book about her uncle, President Trump, and his family,” The Hill reports.
“The development does not put off the publication of the book, which publisher Simon & Schuster has set for Tuesday, but it will prevent Mary Trump from promoting the work at least through Monday.”
All in the Family Dynamics
This New York Times review of Mary Trump’s tell-all book is absolutely spot on:
“It’s the kind of detail — memorably specific, fundamentally human and decidedly weird — that gives this book an undeniable power, even if its narrative is bookended by Mary’s strenuous efforts to put her training as a clinical psychologist to use. She has no problem calling Donald Trump a narcissist, and she also identifies additional signs of antisocial personality disorder (the vaingloriousness), dependent personality disorder (the neediness) and a substance-induced sleep disorder (the dozen daily Diet Cokes). When she writes in her prologue that ‘Donald has been institutionalized for most of his adult life,’ she isn’t referring to anything so salubrious as mental health treatment. ‘Institutionalization’ here refers to the gilded cosseting provided by the family name and fortune that ensured Donald would never have to survive by his own wits in the real world.”
“But will the real world survive Donald Trump? Mary says that American democracy will not if he gets a second term. The story she describes in Too Much and Never Enough is presented as a cautionary tale. Donald, she says, can’t help recreating a familial psychodrama that destroyed everyone it touched. She recalls waking up at 5 a.m. the morning after the 2016 election: ‘It felt as though 62,979,636 voters had chosen to turn this country into a macro version of my malignantly dysfunctional family.'”

Another Book Is Coming
President Trump was photographed putting a card in his jacket with the name “Bob Woodward” on it, CNN reports.
Trump has reportedly spoken with Woodward for several hours ahead of his new book on the Trump White House, scheduled to be published in September. Trump was irritated he wasn’t told about Woodward’s attempts to interview him for the last book.
‘It Didn’t Work’
Jacob Soboroff writes in his new book, Separated: Inside an American Tragedy, that Katie Miller, former spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security and wife of Trump adviser Stephen Miller, told him she was sent to the southern border to see the plight of migrant families, The Week reports.
Said Miller: “Family and colleagues told me that when I have kids I’ll think about the separations differently. But I don’t think so… DHS sent me to the border to see the separations for myself — to try to make me more compassionate — but it didn’t work.”

Mary Trump Claims Trump Praised Her Breasts
The Daily Beast recounts a particularly disturbing scene from Mary Trump’s new tell-all book in which Donald Trump’s niece recounts how when she was 29 and wearing a bathing suit and a pair of shorts to lunch at the resort, her uncle looked up at her and remarked, “Holy shit, Mary. You’re stacked.”
Writes Ms. Trump: “I was twenty-nine and not easily embarrassed, but my face reddened, and I suddenly felt self-conscious. I pulled my towel around my shoulders. It occurred to me that nobody in my family, outside of my parents and brother, had ever seen me in a bathing suit.”
Melania and Me
The new tell-all book we noted yesterday is now available for pre-order: Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with the First Lady by Stephanie Winston Wolkoff.
Vanity Fair says the book details the author’s 15-year-long friendship with the First Lady that culminated in her ousting after she helped plan the inauguration and served in the East Wing.

Bonus Quote of the Day
“Honest work was never demanded of him, and no matter how badly he failed, he was rewarded in ways that are almost unfathomable. He continues to be protected from his own disasters in the White House. But now the stakes are far higher than they’ve ever been before; they are literally life and death. Unlike any previous time in his life, Donald’s failings cannot be hidden or ignored because they threaten us all.”
— Mary Trump, writing about Donald Trump in Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.
How Mary Trump Leaked Family Tax Documents
Mary Trump tells the story in her new tell-all of how she secretly gave the New York Times much of the source material for its 14,000 word investigation of how President Trump participated in dubious tax schemes, according to Axios.
At 3:00, I drove to the loading dock beneath the building, and nineteen boxes were loaded into the back of the borrowed truck I was driving since I couldn’t work the clutch in my own car.
It was just beginning to get dark when I pulled into my driveway. The three reporters were waiting for me in David’s white SUV, which sported a pair of reindeer antlers and a huge red nose wired to the grill.
When I showed them the boxes, there were hugs all around. It was the happiest I’d felt in months.
‘Cheating as a Way of Life’
The New York Times obtained an early copy of Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man by Mary Trump.
“It depicts a multigenerational saga of greed, betrayal and internecine tension and seeks to explain how President Trump’s position in one of New York’s wealthiest and most infamous real-estate empires helped him acquire what Ms. Trump has referred to as ‘twisted behaviors’ — attributes like seeing other people in ‘monetary terms’ and practicing ‘cheating as a way of life.'”
Among the highlights: Trump paid someone to take the SAT on his behalf which he used to later gain admittance as an undergraduate to the University of Pennsylvania’s prestigious Wharton business school.
Also stunning: “Ms. Trump, a clinical psychologist, asserts that her uncle has all nine clinical criteria for being a narcissist. And yet, she notes, even that label does not capture the full array of the president’s psychological troubles.”
Writes Trump: “The fact is, Donald’s pathologies are so complex and his behaviors so often inexplicable that coming up with an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis would require a full battery of psychological and neurophysical tests that he’ll never sit for.”

Trump’s Worldview Forged by Neglect and Trauma
A tell-all book by President Trump’s niece describes a family riven by a series of traumas, exacerbated by a daunting patriarch who “destroyed” Donald Trump by short-circuiting his “ability to develop and experience the entire spectrum of human emotion,” according to a copy of the forthcoming memoir obtained by the Washington Post.
Rick Hasen: “Like the John Bolton book, the early leaking of the book essentially moots further attempts at prior restraint to stop publication.”

GOP Governor Already Looking at 2024 Presidential Bid
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R), a frequent critic of President Trump, told the New York Times he is already considering a 2024 presidential bid.
Said Hogan: “After this November election is over, regardless of who wins, there are a large majority of Americans who are completely convinced our political system is fundamentally broken, and they’re going to be looking for something different.”
Hogan is also promoting his new memoir: Still Standing: Surviving Cancer, Riots, a Global Pandemic, and the Toxic Politics that Divide America.
Trump Confidante to Release an ‘Explosive’ Tell-All
“Following months of legal drama, threats, and public controversy surrounding multiple books published by former Trumpworld insiders, yet another blockbuster Trump book is set to hit shelves next month and contain ‘explosive’ revelations about first lady Melania Trump, written by her once close adviser and friend of 15 years,” the Daily Beast reports.
“Stephanie Winston Wolkoff—who was previously seen by the first lady as a loyal confidante and helped plan President Donald Trump’s 2017 inauguration in Washington, D.C.—will release a tell-all, Melania and Me, on Sept. 1.”
“People with knowledge of the project say the content of the book is largely negative and that the manuscript heavily trashes the First Lady.”
