Sebastian Gorka, President Trump’s top counter-terrorism adviser, is a formal member of a Hungarian far-right group that is listed by the U.S. State Department as having been “under the direction of the Nazi Government of Germany” during World War II, leaders of the organization have told the Forward.
King Predicts Blacks and Hispanics Will Fight Each Other
Rep. Steve King (R-IA) told an Iowa radio station that blacks and Hispanics “will be fighting each other” before overtaking whites in the U.S. population.
Said King: “When you start accentuating the differences, then you start ending up with people that are at each other’s throats. And he’s adding up Hispanics and blacks into what he predicts will be in greater number than whites in America. I will predict that Hispanics and the blacks will be fighting each other before that happens.”
Carson Has Called Slaves ‘Immigrants’ for Decades
HUD Secretary Ben Carson, under fire for referring to American slaves as “immigrants,” insisted his remarks were misinterpreted, calling the two experiences “entirely different.” Politico reports.
“But his words to HUD employees on Monday were nearly identical to those he has used over the past two decades.”
Trump Suggests Anti-Semitic Threats Coming from Jews
President Trump appeared to suggest that the wave of bomb threats against Jewish community centers across the U.S. could be coming from within the Jewish community itself, BuzzFeed reports.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who was part of a group of state attorneys general meeting with Trump, said that the commander-in-chief seemed to indicate he felt some of the threats were being made from the inside, as part of a potential effort “to make others look bad.”
Wave of Threats Made to Jewish Centers
“In the wake of 11 new threats today against Jewish centers, from New York to New Mexico, the FBI said it is investigating, along with the Department of Justice, bomb threats to the centers across the country,” ABC News reports.
“Federal authorities are looking into threats communicated to at least 60 Jewish centers around the country this year. The threats started in January and the FBI began investigating later that same month. The threats have come in ‘different waves,’ with more threats phoned in to centers today, according to one source familiar with the matter.”
Miller Got His Start Pestering Hispanic Students
Univision spoke to high school classmates of Trump policy adviser Stephen Miller and found he “had few friends, none of them non-white. They said he used to make fun of the children of Latino and Asian immigrants who did not speak English well.”
“Early on, Miller began to write opinion columns in conservative blogs, the local press and the high school’s own newspaper, The Samohi. He also contributed at times to the national radio show of Larry Elder, a conservative African American, and once invited him to speak at the school. Displaying his hostility toward minorities, Miller complained to school administrators about announcements in Spanish and festivals that celebrated diversity.”
Giuliani Says Trump Wanted a ‘Legal’ Muslim Ban
Rudy Giuliani told Fox News that Donald Trump came to him for guidance on implementing a so-called “Muslim ban” and from that, he helped construct the controversial order crippling international travel from predominantly Muslim countries, the New York Daily News reports.
“The ex-NYC mayor said he pitched the ban, not as a religious prohibition, but one focused on danger.
Said Giuliani: “I’ll tell you the whole history of it. When he first announced it, he said ‘Muslim ban.’ He called me up, he said ‘put a commission together, show me the right way to do it, legally.'”
Alt-Right Activist Punched in the Face
Alt-right activist Richard Spencer was punched in the face while being interviewed by ABC News.
DCist: “Not that we condone violence against hateful people who really deserve the awful things that happen to them, but we will grudgingly watch remixes of Spencer getting punched multiple times.
LePage Says Lewis Should Thank White Presidents
Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) said “that the NAACP should apologize to white America, making the comment just hours after he weighed in on the president-elect’s Twitter beef with a civil rights icon, saying U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) should be grateful,” the Portland Press Herald reports.
Said LePage: “I will just say this: John Lewis ought to look at history. It was Abraham Lincoln who freed the slaves, it was Rutherford B. Hayes and Ulysses S. Grant who fought against Jim Crow laws. A simple thank you would suffice.”
John Lewis, Donald Trump and the Meaning of Legitimacy
David Remnick: “John Lewis represents Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District, one vote of four hundred and thirty-five. He is also the singular conscience of Capitol Hill. Lewis is a dismal institution’s griot, a historical actor and hero capable of telling the most complex and painful of American stories—the story of race. That is his job, his mission. With Dr. King and Malcolm X, Fannie Lou Hamer and Ella Baker long gone, Lewis remains nearly alone in his capacity to tell the story of that era as a direct witness and, because of all that he has seen and endured, to issue credible moral judgment.”
“Only a heedless few would reject that judgment out of hand, no matter how wounding. Who would think to call John Lewis ‘all talk, talk, talk—no action or results’? Who would have the impoverished language to dismiss the whole of John Lewis as ‘sad’? As it happens, the President-elect of the United States.”
Meanwhile, the AP reports that two of John Lewis’ books — his graphic novel trilogy, March and his 2015 memoir, Walking With the Wind — have sold out on Amazon.

Trump Praises African-Americans Who Didn’t Vote
“Donald Trump’s barnstorming tour across the states that won him the White House continues to feature far more taunts of triumph than notes of healing after a bruising election,” the Chicago Tribune reports.
“Thursday’s rally in Hershey, Pennsylvania, found the president-elect calling for the mostly white crowd to cheer for African-Americans who were ‘smart’ to heed his message and therefore ‘didn’t come out to vote’ for his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.”
Said Trump: “That was the big thing, so thank you to the African-American community.”
Trump’s Populist Message Proved Everyone Wrong
NBC News: “Trump’s appeals to the economic, cultural and racial fears of his supporters were widely perceived as offensive to women and minorities. Many GOP leaders warned it would be impossible to win a national election by polarizing the electorate and focusing so intensely on a shrinking segment of the population, even as the country is becoming more diverse, educated and culturally tolerant.”
“Trump proved them wrong.”
Why Do California’s Whites Vote So Differently?
Mike Mayles: “California whites, who have plenty of experience with actual immigrants, voted against Trump by a 5 percentage point margin. Reading and triangulating 2016 election exit polls shows Californian whites vote very differently from other whites around the country – including those in New York, a similarly affluent, educated Democrat bastion. New York whites supported Trump by a 6-point margin, a pro-Republican switch of 12 percentage points from 2008. At the opposite political node, Texas’ white folks may be tasting diversity but want none of it; they handed Trump a 43 percentage point landslide.”
“Speculatively, California’s white population may be self-selected for greater tolerance. Those who stay in the first major state where whites have become not just a demographic minority, but a voting minority, may be inured to racist, xenophobic demagoguery more than those in states where whites are just beginning to lose their majority grip.”
Top Clinton Aide Hits Trump Campaign Again for Racism
Jennifer Palmieri: “A good bit of the post-election analysis has centered on what our campaign should have done differently. That’s appropriate. We should think long and hard about why we lost. Trust me, we have. But it’s also important for the winners of this campaign to think long and hard about the voters who rejected them. I haven’t seen much evidence of such introspection from the Trump side. That’s concerning. I don’t know whether the Trump campaign needed to give a platform to white supremacists to win. But the campaign clearly did, and it had the effect of empowering the white-nationalist movement.”
KKK Leader Misses His Own Trump Victory Parade
