Sen. Ted Cruz has won the Iowa caucuses, Politico reports.
“The Texas senator, a clear frontrunner in Iowa just a month ago, took the top spot in the state’s first in the nation GOP caucuses Monday night… But Donald Trump’s close second-place finish and a strong third-place showing from Marco Rubio could leave the Republican presidential race just as muddled as it’s been for months—with three strong contenders for the party’s presidential nomination bunched together and likely to fight on for months, possibly all the way to the GOP convention.”
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton’s campaign declared victory in the Democratic race even though it’s too close to call, Politico reports.
“Clinton and her allies acknowledge the Democratic primary could drag on for months. But even a narrow victory in Iowa would provide a huge morale and media boost, and raise questions about whether Sanders represents a truly serious threat to her for the nomination.”
