A New Explanation for Why Trump Can’t Be Racist

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said claims that President Trump is racist are “outrageous,” citing his success as a public figure and star turn on television as a host on NBC’s reality show The Apprentice, Bloomberg reports.

Said Sanders: “Frankly, if the critics of the president were who he said he was, why did NBC give him a show for a decade on TV.”

Jonathan Chait: “The belief that television networks would never employ a racist is oddly naïve, especially for a figure as steeped in criticism of Hollywood as the daughter of famed social conservative Mike Huckabee.”
