“President Trump on Friday claimed strong congressional support for strengthening background checks for gun buyers, offering an optimistic assessment for passing new legislation that was at odds with public statements from Senate Republicans,” the Washington Post reports.
Said Trump: “I think we can do very meaningful background checks. I think Republicans are going to be great and lead the charge along with the Democrats.”
