Robert Regan (R), who made national headlines last month for suggesting that women who are raped should “lie back and enjoy it,” lost his race in a surprise defeat, the Detroit Free Press reports.
He was favored to win in the heavily Republican district that had only ever been held by a Republican.

Goddard earned degrees from Vassar College and Harvard University. He lives in New York with his wife and three sons.
