Trump to Send 2,000 National Guard Troops to California

June 7, 2025 at 11:35 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Trump administration will send at least 2,000 National Guardsmen to Los Angeles after two days of protests that erupted in response to federal deportation operations,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“President Trump ordered the troops to temporarily protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and government personnel, as well as federal property, according to a memo released by the White House. The move came after clashes erupted between protesters and federal officers in the Los Angeles area.”

“The deployment of troops under federal authority in response to civil unrest is a rare step, one that usually requires the president to find under the Insurrection Act that they are needed to enforce the law or restore order.”

New York Times: Trump is deploying National Guard troops under a rarely used power.

Trump Holds the Power In Feud with Musk

June 7, 2025 at 11:31 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Dan Balz: “There will be no true winners in the spectacular breakup between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, two alpha males with enormous egos and a penchant for rhetorical combat — and for excess. To many Americans watching it all, the two deserve each other. But in the end, Musk should know who truly holds the cards, and it’s not him.”

“The implosion that occurred Thursday was an irresistible spectacle pitting the most powerful person in the world against the richest person in the world. It was made for cable news and social media, and neither could get enough of it. Many Republicans who couldn’t look away were nonetheless alarmed at the potential fallout.”

Economy Is Headed Toward an Uncomfortable Summer

June 7, 2025 at 11:30 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The U.S. economy, which weathered false recession alarms in 2023 and 2024, is entering another uncomfortable summer,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Job growth held steady in May, with the economy adding 139,000 jobs. The unemployment rate has stayed in a tight range, between 4% and 4.2%, over the past year.”

“But there are cracks beneath the surface. Businesses are warning that constantly shifting trade policies are interfering with their ability to plan for the future, leading to hiring and investment freezes.”

Russian Intelligence Shows Deep Suspicion of China

June 7, 2025 at 11:25 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“In public, President Vladimir Putin of Russia says his country’s growing friendship with China is unshakable — a strategic military and economic collaboration that has entered a golden era,” the New York Times reports.

“But in the corridors of Lubyanka, the headquarters of Russia’s domestic security agency, known as the F.S.B., a secretive intelligence unit refers to the Chinese as ‘the enemy.’”

“This unit, which has not previously been disclosed, has warned that China is a serious threat to Russian security. Its officers say that Beijing is increasingly trying to recruit Russian spies and get its hands on sensitive military technology, at times by luring disaffected Russian scientists.”

June 7, 2025 at 11:19 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

In a challenge to President Trump’s vow to take control of Greenland, President Emmanuel Macron of France will visit the enormous Arctic island on June 15 with the aim of “contributing to the reinforcement of European sovereignty,” the New York Times reports.

Elon Musk’s Fight with Scott Bessent Turned Physical

June 7, 2025 at 3:38 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Washington Post: “After Bessent and Musk exited the Oval Office and began walking down the hallway, the two men started to exchange insults… Bessent brought up Musk’s claims that he would uncover more than $1 trillion in wasteful and fraudulent government spending, which Musk had not succeeded at doing.”

Said Bessent: “You’re a fraud. You’re a total fraud.”

“Musk then rammed his shoulder into Bessent’s rib cage ‘like a rugby player,’ Bannon said, and Bessent hit him back. Multiple people stepped in to break up the scrum as the two men reached the national security adviser’s office, and Musk was shuffled out of the West Wing.”

The Great Un-Awokening

June 7, 2025 at 3:32 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Ambitious Democrats with an eye on a presidential run are in the middle of a slow-motion Sister Souljah moment,” Politico reports.

“Searching for a path out of the political wilderness, potential 2028 candidates, especially those hailing from blue states, are attempting to ratchet back a leftward lurch on social issues some in the party say cost them the November election.”

Musk Deletes Claims Trump Is In Epstein Files

June 7, 2025 at 3:20 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Less than two days after Elon Musk slammed President Donald Trump over the megabill moving through Congress, the billionaire appeared to remove several of his most scathing posts on X that targeted the president, including one that insinuated Trump was in the Epstein files,” ABC News reports.

New York Times: “Another of Mr. Musk’s deleted posts was a vow that his company SpaceX would decommission its Dragon spacecraft, which NASA has used to transport crew to the International Space Station.”

Trump Says He’ll Punish Musk If He Helps Democrats

June 7, 2025 at 2:13 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Donald Trump on Saturday said there would be “serious consequences” if tech mogul Elon Musk funds Democratic candidates to run against Republicans who vote in favor of the GOP’s sweeping budget bill, NBC News reports.

Said Trump: “If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that.”

“The president also said he has no desire to repair his relationship with Musk after a feud between the two men erupted into public view earlier this week.”

NASA and Pentagon Push for SpaceX Alternatives

June 7, 2025 at 2:10 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“NASA and Pentagon officials moved swiftly this past week to urge competitors to Elon Musk’s SpaceX to more quickly develop alternative rockets and spacecraft after President Donald Trump threatened to cancel Space X’s contracts and Musk’s defiant response,” the Washington Post reports.

“Government officials were especially stunned after Musk responded to Trump with a salvo of his own: SpaceX would stop flying its Dragon spacecraft, a move that would leave the space agency with no way to transport its astronauts to the International Space Station.”

GOP Worries DOGE Cuts Will Sink Them in Virginia

June 7, 2025 at 11:38 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Republicans are increasingly worried that budget cuts by Elon Musk’s DOGE could cost them dearly in November’s vote for Virginia governor — an early electoral test of President Trump’s policies,” Axios reports.

“Virginia has one of the highest percentages of federal employees in the country — more than 5% of the state’s workforce by some estimates — and Republicans’ internal polls are starting to show the damage from tens of thousands of federal layoffs.”

Vance Says He Hopes Musk Returns to the Fold

June 7, 2025 at 11:32 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Vice President JD Vance said Elon Musk is making a ‘huge mistake’ in going after Donald Trump and expressed hopes the billionaire will come back into the fold following the public feud that unfolded,” Bloomberg reports.

Said Vance: “I’m always going to be loyal to the president and I hope that eventually Elon kind of comes back into the fold. Maybe that’s not possible now because he’s gone so nuclear, but I hope it is.”

Washington Post: “Trump declined to go all-out in his attacks on Musk and counseled the vice president to show restraint in his comments about Musk, preserving a possible bridge.”

Musk’s Team Dismissed Security Risks

June 7, 2025 at 11:19 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Musk’s team at the U.S. DOGE Service and allies in the Trump administration ignored White House communications experts worried about potential security breaches when DOGE personnel installed Musk’s Starlink internet service in the complex this year,” the Washington Post reports.

Conspiracists Think Musk-Trump Breakup Is a ‘Psyop’

June 7, 2025 at 6:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wired: “The extremely public and increasingly unhinged breakup of Elon Musk and President Donald Trump has caused chaos in DC, forced Silicon Valley executives to pick sides, and wiped more than $150 billion off Tesla’s market cap.”

“But in the conspiracy-theory-addicted corners of the internet, the feud between Musk and Trump is nothing more than a fake, planned distraction.”

Quote of the Day

“I will apologize profusely as soon as there is a full dump of the Epstein files.”

— Elon Musk, in a post on X that he later deleted.

Polling on Elon Musk Is a Warning for Republicans

June 7, 2025 at 3:16 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Politico: “It’s not Musk’s ownership of one of the most influential social media platforms that should give the president pause. Nor is it the billionaire tech mogul’s status as the world’s richest man, with a recent history of bankrolling Republican causes.”

“It’s Musk’s stratospheric popularity with the Republican base, as revealed in the polls.”

“Musk is not about to overtake Trump himself as the dominant figure in the party, to be clear. But the jilted former “special government employee” is uniquely suited to become a chaos agent who could terrorize the GOP — potentially wreaking havoc on Trump’s legislative agenda and the party’s midterm election plans.”
