Hegseth’s Press Secretary Is as Extreme as They Come

June 3, 2025 at 11:30 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New Republic: “The Pentagon’s new press secretary is a chronically online 26-year-old white nationalist who believes in the ‘great replacement’ theory, thinks Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskiy is an ‘entitled midget,’ and pushed an antisemitic conspiracy theory about Leo Frank, a Jewish man who was lynched after being falsely accused of murder in 1915.”

“Kingsley Wilson, who has served as deputy press secretary since January, is the daughter of right-wing talking head and former Trump adviser Steve Cortes and previously worked for Center for Renewing America, a think tank founded by Project 2025 architect Russel Vought. She will now act as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s primary mouthpiece at the Pentagon, a department that has not had regular press briefings for some time now.”

Ukraine Attacks Bridge Connecting Russia and Crimea

June 3, 2025 at 11:01 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Ukraine said on Tuesday that it had hit the bridge connecting Russia and the occupied Crimean Peninsula with explosives planted underwater, in its third attack on the vital supply line for Moscow’s forces since the full-scale war began in 2022,” CNN reports.

Jay Nordlinger: “I don’t know whether Ukraine will be able to survive. Whether the Ukrainians will be able to keep their independence, their country, their freedom. But their effort to do so has been one of the most valiant and admirable things I have ever seen. What an example they have set.”

Pentagon Aligns Greenland with the U.S.

June 3, 2025 at 10:59 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Pentagon is poised to shift its oversight of Greenland by putting it under U.S. Northern Command, a symbolic gesture that would more closely align the island territory with the U.S. as President Donald Trump continues to show interest in taking control over the Arctic landmass,” Politico reports.

The Problem With Governing by Delusion

June 3, 2025 at 10:40 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

In a moment that underscored just how far the political discourse has slipped, Fox News hosts openly laughed after President Trump suggested that Joe Biden had been murdered in 2020 and was replaced with a clone.

The claim is so absurd it doesn’t merit a fact-check.

June 3, 2025 at 10:18 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump attacked fiscal conservative Rand Paul as “crazy” as he pressed reluctant Republican senators to move forward swiftly with his massive tax and spending package, Bloomberg reports.

Trump said Paul “never has any practical or constructive ideas. His ideas are actually crazy.”

June 3, 2025 at 10:16 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Trump Complains About Justices He Appointed

June 3, 2025 at 10:03 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Donald Trump has privately complained that the Supreme Court justices he appointed have not sufficiently stood behind his agenda,” CNN reports.

“But he has directed particular ire at Justice Amy Coney Barrett, his most recent appointee.”

“The behind-closed-doors grievances have been wide-ranging, and while many have been about Barrett, Trump has also expressed frustration about Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh… The complaints have gone on for at least a year.”

Dutch Government Collapses Over Migration Dispute

June 3, 2025 at 10:01 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The governing coalition in the Netherlands collapsed on Tuesday after the populist leader Geert Wilders withdrew his party over a dispute about migration policy, ending a rocky 11-month reign by the country’s first far-right government and triggering early elections,” the New York Times reports.

“The move by Mr. Wilders shows how much a debate over unauthorized migration continues to roil European politics, a decade after a large-scale influx of people fleeing wars or seeking better economic opportunities unsettled the region.”

The No. 1 Rule for Understanding Trump

June 3, 2025 at 9:30 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Derek Thompson: “In the past four months, President Trump has announced tariffs on Canada, paused tariffs on Canada, restarted tariffs on Canada, ruled out tariffs on certain Canadian goods, and then ruled in, and even raised, tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.”

“And that’s just for starters. On April 2, so-called Liberation Day, Trump announced a broader set of tariffs on almost every country in the world. Soon after, the plan was half-suspended. Then Trump announced a new set of elevated tariffs on China, from which he backtracked as well. Next the courts, as often happens, took over the job of erasing the president’s previously announced policies. Last week, a trade court struck down the president’s entire Liberation Day tariff regime as unconstitutional, only for a federal circuit court to reinstate the tariffs shortly thereafter. Now a higher court has the opportunity to do the funniest thing: undo the undoing of the undoing of the tariffs, which have been in a permanent state of being undone ever since they were created.”

“Got all that? No, you most certainly do not, and neither does anybody else.”

Democrats Quietly Form New Think Tank

June 3, 2025 at 9:15 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“At a private meeting last month, a top Democratic strategist pitched party leaders and donors: We need to break down ideological lanes and reject interest group agendas if we plan to win again,” Politico reports.

“Adam Jentleson, former chief of staff to Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) and top aide to former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), used the retreat to preview his new policy research and messaging hub, called Searchlight. Its goal: push the Democratic Party toward the most effective, broadly popular positions regardless of which wing of the party they come from, with an eye toward 2028.”

New Megabill Text Dropping This Week

June 3, 2025 at 9:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Senate committees will start rolling out their portions of the GOP megabill as soon as Tuesday, providing a first look at how Republicans in the chamber plan to address some of the House’s most controversial proposals,” Politico reports.

Putin Unlikely to Meet with Trump Anytime Soon

June 3, 2025 at 8:58 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Russian President Vladimir Putin isn’t likely to meet US counterpart Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy in the near future, the Kremlin said a day after Kyiv and Moscow held another round of inconclusive peace talks,” Bloomberg reports.

The Trump Organization Has Expanded Globally

June 3, 2025 at 8:09 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Trump pledged to bring business back to the U.S. His own company has been doing more business overseas than ever before,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Since the November election, the Trump Organization, the family’s flagship real-estate firm, and its partners have publicly announced 12 international projects including residential high-rises, hotels and golf courses—far outpacing the two overseas deals announced during his first administration.”

“The Trump Organization released an ethics agreement in January barring the company from doing business directly with foreign governments. Yet several of the deals involve foreign governments, especially in the Middle East.”

Tillis Hires Trump’s Pollster

June 3, 2025 at 7:54 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Trump Has Gutted Anti-Corruption Efforts

June 3, 2025 at 7:47 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“For decades, the FBI and the Justice Department have been the main enforcers of laws against political corruption and white-collar fraud in the United States. In four months, the Trump administration has dismantled key parts of that law enforcement infrastructure, creating what experts say is the ripest environment for corruption by public officials and business executives in a generation,” NBC News reports.

“Trump aides have forced out most of the lawyers in the Justice Department’s main anti-corruption unit, the Public Integrity Section, and disbanded an FBI squad tasked with investigating congressional misconduct. They have issued a series of directives requiring federal law enforcement agencies to prioritize immigration enforcement. And they have ended a 50-year policy of keeping the Justice Department independent of the White House in criminal investigations.”

Dan Pfeiffer: “Trump is the most corrupt president in history, here’s why he keeps getting away with it.”

Ruben Gallego Pushes to Expand Democratic Tent

June 3, 2025 at 7:43 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) “is already making moves to appeal to moderates and boost his national profile barely five months after winning his seat,” Axios reports.

Said Gallego: “What happened the last election is that we got so pure, and we kept so pure that we started kicking people out of the tent. It ends up there aren’t enough people in the tent to win elections.”

“Gallego — who kept his seat in the Democrats’ column despite Trump’s victory in Arizona — is planning additional stops in key battlegrounds over the coming months.”

The Hot Spots for Immigration Enforcement

June 3, 2025 at 7:38 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Efforts to arrest and remove unauthorized immigrants appear most aggressive in five southern states with Democratic-leaning cities, while deeply red, rural states are seeing less activity,” Axios reports.

More See Republicans as the Party of Change

June 3, 2025 at 7:32 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

CNN Poll: “The other notable finding is on which party is the ‘party of change.’ Americans chose Republicans, 32% to 25%.”

“That’s not a big gap, but it is counterintuitive given Republicans swept the House, Senate and White House last fall. Historically speaking, it’s almost always the party that’s out of power that’s viewed as the party of change.”

“Not only do Democrats trail on this measure, but only a slight majority of Democrats themselves — 51% — say their party is the party of change. And only 18% of independents say that.”
