“The White House is publicly standing behind its work with DOGE. Nonetheless, the public feud between Trump and Musk has rattled rank-and-file DOGE employees, who worry the government-cutting effort—and their jobs—could be in jeopardy.”

“The future of DOGE, Trump and Musk’s joint project to reshape the federal government, is one of the major looming questions in the aftermath of this past week’s high-profile rupture between the U.S. president and the world’s richest man, whose falling out was prompted by disagreements over the president’s tax-and-spending package.”

“The relationship between President Donald Trump and billionaire and self-styled “first buddy” Elon Musk ruptured this week, with the former allies trading insults and threats on social media. It’s not the first time Musk has fallen out with his associates,” the Washington Post reports.

“The Trump administration will send at least 2,000 National Guardsmen to Los Angeles after two days of protests that erupted in response to federal deportation operations,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“President Trump ordered the troops to temporarily protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and government personnel, as well as federal property, according to a memo released by the White House. The move came after clashes erupted between protesters and federal officers in the Los Angeles area.”

“The deployment of troops under federal authority in response to civil unrest is a rare step, one that usually requires the president to find under the Insurrection Act that they are needed to enforce the law or restore order.”

New York Times: Trump is deploying National Guard troops under a rarely used power.

“Musk then rammed his shoulder into Bessent’s rib cage ‘like a rugby player,’ Bannon said, and Bessent hit him back. Multiple people stepped in to break up the scrum as the two men reached the national security adviser’s office, and Musk was shuffled out of the West Wing.”

“Less than two days after Elon Musk slammed President Donald Trump over the megabill moving through Congress, the billionaire appeared to remove several of his most scathing posts on X that targeted the president, including one that insinuated Trump was in the Epstein files,” ABC News reports.

New York Times: “Another of Mr. Musk’s deleted posts was a vow that his company SpaceX would decommission its Dragon spacecraft, which NASA has used to transport crew to the International Space Station.”

“Vice President JD Vance said Elon Musk is making a ‘huge mistake’ in going after Donald Trump and expressed hopes the billionaire will come back into the fold following the public feud that unfolded,” Bloomberg reports.

Said Vance: “I’m always going to be loyal to the president and I hope that eventually Elon kind of comes back into the fold. Maybe that’s not possible now because he’s gone so nuclear, but I hope it is.”

Washington Post: “Trump declined to go all-out in his attacks on Musk and counseled the vice president to show restraint in his comments about Musk, preserving a possible bridge.”
