When You’re a Star, the Supreme Court Lets You Do It

July 24, 2025 at 11:40 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Don Moynihan: “A couple of months ago, the major concern was what would happen when Trump defied the courts. A more complicated picture is now emerging. One that mixes quiet but unmistakable defiance of court decisions by the Trump administration with encouragement from the six Republican-appointed Justices who sit atop the judicial branch.”

“This is an arguably worse scenario, since it provides a veneer of legalism even as it replaces the rule of law with rule by law, where Trump is allowed to determine the nature of that law.”

“The emerging pattern is that the Trump administration is checked by the lower courts, slow-walks compliance, and sometimes asks SCOTUS for help, which they usually provide via poorly reasoned opinions or no opinions at all. The Supreme Court often does not feel the need to explain what are effectively constitutional amendments that rebalance the separation of powers, feeding perceptions of the court as a partisan actor.”

‘South Park’ Skewers Trump After $1.5 Billion Deal

July 24, 2025 at 11:31 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

NBC News: “The media conglomerate Paramount announced Wednesday afternoon that the creators of ‘South Park’ had agreed to produce 50 new episodes over the next five years in a deal reportedly valued at $1.5 billion.”

“Ten hours later, ‘South Park’ creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker excoriated Paramount — and aggressively skewered President Donald Trump — in the premiere episode of the Comedy Central show’s 27th season.”

The HuffPost notes the narrator gets the last word in the episode: “Trump. His penis is teeny tiny, but his love for us is large.”

White House Prods Missouri to Redistrict

July 24, 2025 at 11:27 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Donald Trump’s political team is urging Republicans to redraw Missouri’s congressional map to net a seat by targeting Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver,” Punchbowl News reports.

“The White House is interested in a map that would divide Cleaver’s Kansas City-based seat, giving Republicans control of seven of the state’s eight districts… The current map has six Republicans and two Democrats.”

Trump Has a ‘Deep Throat’ in His Administration

July 24, 2025 at 10:19 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

The Wall Street Journal wouldn’t be running explosive stories about Donald Trump’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein unless they were absolutely certain of their reporting.

Given the legal risk of enraging a famously litigious president, it’s safe to assume the Journal triple-sourced every detail.

Americans Overwhelmingly Want Transparency on Epstein

July 24, 2025 at 10:06 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

A new Fox News poll finds only 13% of Americans think the government has been open and transparent about the Jeffrey Epstein case, while more than five times as many, 67%, disagree – including 60% of Republicans and 56% of MAGA supporters.

Bill Kristol: “As for the poll’s cross-tabs, what’s striking is the relative uniformity of voters’ judgments as to whether the federal government has been open and transparent. Democrats are predictably the most disappointed, by 74 percent to 9 percent. Independents break 64 percent to 10 percent. But even among Republicans the split is 60 percent to 18 percent.”

“It turns out everyone is interested in the Epstein files. Which is why the White House is panicking.”

Republicans Plan to Use Impeachment as Midterm Issue

July 24, 2025 at 10:01 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

NBC News: “Seldom do sitting presidents pick up seats in midterm congressional elections. Trump faces an especially daunting challenge in that he relies on a devoted electoral base that may feel no compelling reason to vote if his name isn’t on the ballot.”

“One way to persuade Trump supporters to turn out is to press the point that he could face impeachment a third time if Democrats wrest control of the House in November 2026.”

“The message to Trump’s loyal following is a simple one: If you like Trump and want to protect him from an avenging Democratic majority, vote Republican.”

Trump Nominees Face New Round of GOP Resistance

July 24, 2025 at 9:58 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A trio of Trump nominees is running into Republican resistance on the confirmation front, exposing ideological rifts the party has mostly papered over for nominations,” Axios reports.

“It could complicate life for Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), who wants to confirm more nominees fast — at the president’s demand — without fully canceling August recess.”

Prosecutors Concluded Maxwell Was ‘Dishonest’

July 24, 2025 at 8:49 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Ghislaine Maxwell engaged in a ‘significant pattern of dishonest conduct,’ enabled and participated in the abuse of multiple teenage girls, and failed to take responsibility for her crimes,” ABC News reports.

“That was the assessment of the federal prosecutors who brought a criminal case against the longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein and sent her to prison for 20 years.”

“Now, three years later — and amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein files — the Department of Justice has decided to approach Maxwell, 63, to purportedly learn more about her knowledge of whether Epstein’s sex trafficking extended to people other than himself.”

Iran Sets Conditions for Resumption of Nuclear Talks

July 24, 2025 at 8:47 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Iran is ready to resume nuclear talks with the United States as long as some principles are respected, deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on Thursday, a day before a meeting with European powers in Istanbul,” Reuters reports.

“The Iranian diplomat said talks could resume as long as Tehran’s rights under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty are recognised, Washington builds trust with Tehran and guarantees that negotiations will not lead to renewed military action against Iran.”

Pam Bondi Cancels Appearance at Anti-Trafficking Summit

July 24, 2025 at 8:17 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Mike Johnson Can’t Ask for Trump’s Help This Time

July 24, 2025 at 8:03 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Just as the House wrapped up its final vote before the August recess, something remarkable happened.

A Republican-led House Oversight subcommittee unexpectedly approved a motion from Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) to subpoena the Justice Department for documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.

Democrats Find Their Voice

July 24, 2025 at 8:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “Shut out of power in Washington, Democrats have been searching all year for ways to throw a wrench in the works of Congress and gain the upper hand against a Republican majority that routinely bulldozes over them. They have focused relentlessly on making the economic case against President Trump’s agenda, bashing Republicans for backing policies they argue will hurt ordinary Americans.”

“But the deep G.O.P. fissure over the Trump administration’s refusal to release files on Jeffrey Epstein despite promises to do so has shaken that focus, giving Democrats an opening they have eagerly seized to gum up the works at the Capitol and stoke public anger about how Republicans are governing.”

Quote of the Day

July 24, 2025 at 7:48 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“You are fat, you are a joke, you are stupid, you are not funny, you are not as smart as you think you are… This entire thing has been a scam. When we look back on the history of populism in America, we are going to look back on the MAGA movement as the biggest scam in history. And the liberals were right. The MAGA supporters were had. They were.”

— Far-Right influencer Nick Fuentes, quoted by Newsweek, denouncing Donald Trump over the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

Mass Starvation Stalks Gaza

July 24, 2025 at 7:45 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“After four months of a near-total Israeli siege, Gaza’s few remaining hospitals now have wards for the growing number of malnourished children whose tiny bodies are just the width of their bones,” the Washington Post reports.

“Doctors are famished to the point that they have dizzy spells as they make their rounds, medics say, and the journalists documenting their caseloads are often too weak to even walk to the clinics.”

Flashback Exchange of the Day

July 24, 2025 at 7:35 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Jeffrey Epstein was asked in a 2010 deposition about his relationship with Donald Trump:

LAWYER: Have you ever had a personal relationship with Donald Trump?

EPSTEIN: What do you mean by “personal relationship,” sir?

LAWYER: Have you socialized with him?

EPSTEIN: Yes, sir.

LAWYER: Have you ever socialized with Donald Trump in the presence of females under the age of 18?

EPSTEIN: Though I’d like to answer that question, at least today I’m going to have to assert my 5th, 6th and 14th Amendment rights, sir.

Macron Sues Candace Owens

July 24, 2025 at 7:16 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, sued right-wing commentator Candace Owens for defamation, The Guardian reports.

Owens said in early 2024 that she would “stake her entire professional reputation on the fact that Brigitte Macron is in fact a man.”
