A new Quinnipiac poll finds 60% of voters oppose the United States sending more military aid to Israel for their efforts in the war with Hamas, while 32% support it.
Meanwhile, 50% think Israel is committing genocide based on what they know about the situation in Gaza, while 35% do not think Israel is committing genocide and 15% did not offer an opinion.
“The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday approved updated Covid vaccines for the fall season that limit who can get the shots, the federal government’s most restrictive policy since the vaccines became available,” the New York Times reports.
“The agency authorized the vaccines for people who are 65 and older, who are known to be more vulnerable to severe illness from Covid. Younger people would only be eligible if they have at least one underlying medical condition that put them at risk for severe disease.”
“New York City Mayor Eric Adams is saying he’s sorry for the controversy that has surrounded his administration over the past year amid allegations of corruption against the mayor and his associates,” ABC News reports.
Said Adams: “To those New Yorkers who have to pick up their paper and read this headline, all I can say is I’m sorry, and I’m committed to this city.”
“President Donald Trump wants the Supreme Court to decide by Sept. 2 whether the administration must spend billions of dollars in foreign assistance approved by Congress,” USA Today reports.
“In an emergency request filed Aug. 27, the Justice Department asked the Supreme Court to immediately pause a judge’s order that the administration had to spend the money. That includes about $12 billion that needs to be committed by the end of September before the funds expire.”
A new Quinnipiac poll finds voters oppose the move to send National Guard troops to Washington D.C. in an effort to reduce crime by 56% to 41%.
Overall, President Trump’s approval rate is a dismal 37% to 55%.
“A top Florida official says the controversial state-run immigration detention facility in the Everglades will likely be empty in a matter of days, even as Republican Gov. President Trump called for billionaire Democrat donor George Soros to face racketeering and corruption charges for supposedly supporting “violent protests” across the U.S., the Financial Times reports.

A new AP-NORC poll finds President Trump with a 45% approval rating nationwide — the best approval rating Trump has received from the AP-NORC poll in either his first or second term.
“A lot of the guys we just heard from there are these sort of self-described masters of the universe. The MAGA ethos of masculinity, of being an alpha male and all that… You just don’t find more beta behavior than what we saw around the table yesterday.”

Roughly 75% of career lawyers in the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division have left in recent months, Bloomberg Law reports.
“A leading Democratic-aligned think tank is urging states to suspend their redistricting commissions, in an escalation of the growing war over state maps,” Politico reports.
“The Center for American Progress, one of the most prominent liberal think tanks in Washington, urged states that have adopted independent redistricting commissions — which are predominantly blue-leaning states — to set them aside.”
“Silicon Valley corporations and investors, emboldened by President Trump’s embrace of the technology and crypto industries, have pledged up to $200 million to two new super PACs that are aimed at forcing out politicians whom they see as insufficiently supportive of the push into artificial intelligence,” the New York Times reports.
