Bipartisan Group Pushes for Vote on Epstein Files

September 2, 2025 at 6:35 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Politico: “Expect the discharge petition standoff to come to a head this week. Rep. Thomas Massie said he and Rep. Ro Khanna will start the process of forcing a vote ‘immediately’ now that lawmakers are back.”

Said Massie: “This has not gone away like the speaker had hoped. If anything, now that the DOJ is releasing documents, it’s increasing the momentum.”

“Rep. Riley Moore, a West Virginia Republican, indicated over recess that he will support the discharge petition, adding to Massie’s confidence that they can gather the necessary 218 signatures. The GOP dissent threatens Speaker Mike Johnson’s control over the House as the shutdown deadline approaches.”

Quote of the Day

September 2, 2025 at 6:29 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“I thought the easiest war to end would be this one, in a certain way, because of relationships — because, you know, I just felt I knew. But it doesn’t seem, it’s going to get, it’s going to get done, but it’s taking long… You know, sometimes people aren’t ready for it.”

— President Trump, in an interview with the Daily Caller.

Trump Family Amasses $5 Billion After Crypto Launch

September 2, 2025 at 6:25 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “The Trump family notched as much as $5 billion in paper wealth on Monday after its flagship crypto venture opened trading of a new digital currency. The launch is akin to an initial public offering, in which the cryptocurrency, called WLFI, can now be bought and sold on the open market.”

“The Trump family, including President Trump himself, holds just under a quarter of all WLFI tokens in existence.”

“WLFI is likely now the Trumps’ most valuable asset, exceeding their decades-old property portfolio.”

Trump’s September Is Filled With Tough Deadlines

September 1, 2025 at 10:31 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Trump faces a challenging September at home and abroad,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“An end-of-month deadline will force the president to negotiate with Congress to avoid a government shutdown. While Republicans control the House and Senate, they will need Democratic votes to do so. Trump’s recent clawback of billions in foreign aid without congressional approval has brewed distrust between lawmakers and the administration.”

“Trump gave the leaders of Russia and Ukraine an early September deadline to move forward with a peace process or face possible U.S. retaliation. Progress has stalled since the president’s closely watched meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last month, dimming optimism that an end to the war is in sight.”

“Beyond dealmaking, Trump faces uncertainty about the legality of his tariffs, the main plank of his economic agenda and a key campaign promise.”

“More than three-quarters said they lack confidence that life for the next generation will be better than their own, the poll found.”

“Nearly 70% of people said they believe the American dream—that if you work hard, you will get ahead—no longer holds true or never did, the highest level in nearly 15 years of surveys.”

Jerry Nadler Calls It Quits

September 1, 2025 at 7:53 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Rep. Jerrold Nadler, a New York Democrat who has been one of Congress’s leading liberal voices for three decades, will not seek re-election next year, heeding a call for generational change roiling his party,” the New York Times reports.

“The decision will mark the close of a 34-year congressional career that put Mr. Nadler at the center of major civil rights battles and three presidential impeachments. It will also almost certainly touch off a crowded primary fight over a rare open Democratic seat in the heart of Manhattan.”

Kyrsten Sinema Sees Opportunity Under Trump

September 1, 2025 at 11:03 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “Her salaries haven’t been disclosed but people aware of her projects estimate she is set to make well over a million dollars this year… It isn’t abnormal for former lawmakers to pad their pockets after leaving Congress. But Sinema’s sheer number of projects is unusual — and so are her relationships with the party she never joined….”

“Since leaving office, the 49-year-old has pitched herself as a Republican whisperer, meeting with White House officials and helping clients navigate the Capitol.”

“After leaving office, Sinema donated $3 million from her campaign to fund a new AI center at Arizona State University but has been continuing to tap the remaining cash for flights, luxury hotels and music festival tickets. Government watchdogs have questioned her spending and said it could violate campaign finance law.”

September 1, 2025 at 11:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “In the past several weeks, the rioters and their lawyers have pushed the Trump administration to pay them restitution for what they believe were unfair prosecutions.”

“On Thursday, one of the lawyers, Mark McCloskey, said during a public meeting on social media that he had recently met with top officials at the Justice Department and pitched them on a plan to create a special panel that would dole out financial damages to the rioters — much like the arrangement of a special master to award money to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.”

Focus Will Soon Turn to Elections

September 1, 2025 at 10:59 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Playbook: “If the government stays open in October, then attention will increasingly turn toward elections on Nov. 4. — the pivotal electoral night of the year. In addition to the two big gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia, we now have California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Democratic gerrymander on the ballot in the Golden State. Throw in New York’s unmissable mayoral race, Zohran Mamdani and all, and it should be a heck of a night.”

Bloomberg: “This Labor Day, while US markets are closed, crypto traders will have their first opportunity to buy and sell the tokens tied to a project endorsed by President Donald Trump and his family. WLFI, a governance token issued by World Liberty Financial and originally designed for voting on ideas to improve the protocol, will begin trading on Sept. 1.”

“The market debut will serve as a crucial test of how high the Trump name can drive the value of the 100 billion tokens linked to a one-year-old project.”
