Tom Kean Promises ‘Transparency’

June 2, 2026 at 7:11 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Rep. Thomas Kean Jr., a Republican running for re-election in a competitive swing district in New Jersey, has not been seen publicly in nearly three months as he recovers from what his aides have described only as a ‘personal medical condition,’” the New York Times reports.

“Primary Day was no different. Mr. Kean, 57, voted by mail and had no scheduled public appearances. A knock at the door of his home in Westfield, N.J., went unanswered.”

“Then, three hours before polls closed, Mr. Kean’s office released a statement attributed to the congressman that suggested it might be several more weeks before he was healthy enough to return to public life or to the campaign trail.”

The Octagon being constructed on the South Lawn will have about 4,300 seats, and Time reported that at least 1,200 will go to active military members.”

“To get tickets, service members must meet the new body-fat standards the Defense Department put into place earlier this year.”

The Stories Missing From Your Feed

You already know the problem: the same story can look completely different depending on where you read it — and some barely show up at all because algorithms decide what you see.

My goal for Political Wire is to help you get outside those filters — to understand not just what happened, but how it’s being covered and who might be missing it. That’s why I use and recommend Ground News.

It’s an app and website that brings together global news from across the political spectrum, showing each source’s bias, factuality, and ownership.

What I find especially useful is the Blindspot Feed. It highlights stories getting heavy coverage on one side but little on the other — a quick way to see what your usual news diet may be missing.

John Fetterman Calls Graham Platner a ‘Creep’

June 2, 2026 at 4:39 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) “issued a scathing takedown of Graham Platner as the leading Democratic candidate in Maine’s Senate race has become embroiled in a scandal over reports that he sent sexual text messages to women who were not his wife,” CNN reports.

Fetterman also likened Platner to a “Nazi sympathizer” over a now-infamous tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol.

Said Fetterman: “When I was growing up, if someone had a clear Nazi tattoo on them, you probably could conclude that they’re a Nazi sympathizer. Are you going to continue to defend that or dismiss that?”

Immigration Bill Teeters as GOP Awaits Clarity

June 2, 2026 at 4:36 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “Senate Republicans toiled on Tuesday to push forward with a bill to fund President Trump’s immigration crackdown, waiting for a clear statement from the administration that the president was abandoning the idea of a $1.8 billion fund to pay people he says have been victimized by the federal government.”

“The plan for the fund has generated an intense bipartisan backlash, and many Senate Republicans indicated last month that they would not agree to move forward with the legislation as long as it remained an issue.”

Trump Disputes Reports That Iran Cut Off Talks

June 2, 2026 at 4:02 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Donald Trump in a social media post on Tuesday disputed that Iran has cut off communication with mediators, calling Iranian reports of a cessation in talks “false and erroneous,” the AP reports.

Said Trump: “The conversations between us have been going on continuously, including four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago, and today. Where they lead, one never knows, but as I told Iran, ‘It’s time, one way or another, for you to make a Deal. You’ve been doing this for 47 years, and it cannot be allowed to go on any longer!'”

Why the Worst Get on Top

June 2, 2026 at 4:00 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

David Frum: “Bill Pulte does not have a habit of publicly saying admiring things about Vladimir Putin or Bashar al-Assad, so in that one respect his appointment as acting director of national intelligence represents an improvement over Tulsi Gabbard.”

“In every other respect, the appointment is baffling. Pulte has no intelligence background; no national-security expertise. He’s an ultra-partisan with a highly quarrelsome personality and great inherited wealth. Beyond that, there’s not much to say about his record of public or personal achievement.”

“Yet Pulte does have a disgraceful record of putting the prosecutorial powers of government at President Trump’s vindictive service.”

Susan Collins.”

They couldn’t find him.

CNN: Why ‘Tom Kean absent’ is trending.

June 2, 2026 at 2:51 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) told reporters “we don’t need a weaponized” director of national intelligence  when asked about President Trump’s appointment of Bill Pulte, NewsNation reports.

Said Thune: “We don’t need a weaponized DNI, we need professionals there.”

He added: “Again, I just heard about it. I’ll try and get more information about the current state of their thinking about that position. If he’s somebody they want in that position permanently, he’s got a — as you all know — a lengthy road ahead of him.”

June 2, 2026 at 2:25 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Punchbowl News: “President Donald Trump’s controversial choice of Bill Pulte to be the acting director of national intelligence is yet another huge provocation to Senate Republicans, deepening the rift between GOP lawmakers and the White House.”

“Pulte will remain the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency while he temporarily oversees the nation’s 18 intelligence agencies.”

“In the immediate term, Pulte’s selection will make it much harder for Democrats to support renewing FISA Section 702 by the June 12 deadline.”

June 2, 2026 at 1:00 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Said Biden: “Well, not from what I know now. I mean, my god, who knew? It was so shocking to get a cancer diagnosis. I mean, we had — you know, here I was, I’m looking through travel magazines like ‘Oh, where are we gonna go, what are we gonna do?’ And then we get this cancer diagnosis, and I think ‘What am I doing?!’ Like, our whole life is changed now.”
