Usha Vance and the Power of the Pregnant Image

June 24, 2026 at 6:53 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “That three such prominent women in the MAGA movement were pregnant at pretty much the same time was, indubitably, a coincidence. But for an administration that has such an intuitive and strategic understanding of the power of aesthetics that an unspoken dress code in which men outfit themselves in the image of the president has developed, it has also become a telling one.”

“Together, the women have created a notably consistent, and somewhat paradigm-shifting, picture of the White House’s family and fertility platform.”

Gay Marriage Is Dividing Republicans, Again

June 24, 2026 at 6:50 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “Support for gay marriage is now declining, reversing a yearslong trend. Earlier this month, Gallup released a poll showing that Republican support for gay marriage now stood at 37 percent, a decline of 18 percentage points from a high in 2022. Support among independents declined, too.”

“And a few Republican lawmakers are also pushing resolutions against gay marriage. Since 2025, bills and resolutions had been introduced in about a dozen states, either urging the Supreme Court to overturn Obergefell or proposing marriage categories limited to heterosexual couples, according to Lambda Legal, a gay rights group. Nearly all died in committee.”

Americans Aren’t Using AI for News

June 24, 2026 at 6:49 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Semafor: “Only 7% of US adults said they rely on AI tools ‘a great deal’ or ‘a fair amount’ to get news and information, according to the May polling, while a majority — 57% — responded that they don’t use the technology for news at all.”

Trump to Meet with GOP Senators Amid New Divisions

June 24, 2026 at 6:46 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Trump is set on Wednesday to meet with Republican senators on Capitol Hill, after weeks of tumult and tension in the relationship between the president and prominent members of his own party in the Senate,” the New York Times reports.

“Mr. Trump was invited by Senator Rick Scott, Republican of Florida, to address a weekly lunch gathering he runs that typically draws the more conservative faction of G.O.P. senators. It was a break from norms, since a president would typically be invited by the party’s elected leader to address the entire conference at its regular luncheon on Tuesdays, or a special gathering hosted by the leadership.”

NOTUS: Rick Scott says he doesn’t want to be Senate leader. Republicans don’t believe him.

House Democrats Stunned as Two Incumbents Fall

June 24, 2026 at 6:44 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“House Democrats were left stunned on Tuesday night after two of their colleagues — including the chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus — lost primaries to left-wing challengers,” Axios reports.

“Why it matters: The New York primary results are poised to double the bloc of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) in Congress, something that is not sitting well with some moderates.”

CBS News: Mamdani influences New York City’s congressional primaries with 3 big wins.

Europe Braces for Trump’s Wrath

June 24, 2026 at 6:43 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“What looked like a typical round of President Trump insulting European leaders last weekend could turn into a wholesale reordering of the trans-Atlantic relationship,” Axios reports.

“Administration officials are pointing to Europe’s reluctance to get involved in Iran to question why the U.S. should continue underwriting its defense.”

A Trump-Linked Firm Is Lobbying for Pardons

June 24, 2026 at 6:39 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“When President Trump returned to power, a group of his former campaign and administration officials started a federal lobbying practice. Mo Strategies, which has registered an array of corporate clients, is now expanding into the newly-lucrative world of pardons,” CBS News reports.

“Business is booming.”

Schlossberg’s Defeat Dampens Dream of Renewed Camelot

June 24, 2026 at 6:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “It’s an open question whether Mr. Schlossberg’s defeat signifies the demise of a decades-long political dynasty or simply a setback for a family for whom tragedy and accomplishment have been meted out in equal measure.”

“But the rejection of Mr. Schlossberg, the only grandson of the former president, is undoubtedly a rebuke of the most influential line of the Kennedy family tree.”

Mamdani Emerges as a Kingmaker

June 24, 2026 at 5:57 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his allies swept a series of congressional primaries in New York City on Tuesday in a remarkable show of strength for the insurgent left that sent shock waves through the Democratic Party,” the New York Times reports.

“Mr. Mamdani’s candidates toppled a pair of incumbents backed by the city’s political establishment, including major labor unions and the House Democratic leader. Another candidate backed by the mayor won an open House seat, and a handful of democratic socialist challengers he supported were winning down the ballot.”

“For months, Mr. Mamdani threw himself and his energized political organization into the three marquee congressional contests, campaigning late into the night in the race’s final days and calling the election a referendum on the direction of the party.”

Jeffries Downplays Clash with Mamdani Over Primaries

June 23, 2026 at 9:22 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is minimizing the significance of New York’s congressional primaries, telling reporters the ideological direction of his party won’t rest on a few House seats,” Axios reports.

“It is all part of a careful balancing act in which Jeffries is trying to stop a democratic socialist takeover while avoiding open conflict with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.”

Said Jeffries: “I don’t think we’re on opposite pages. You can ask him whether he thinks we’re on opposite pages. He doesn’t believe we’re on opposite pages.”

Washington Post: Mamdani is backing leftist candidates taking on incumbents in NYC.

June 23, 2026 at 6:04 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The U.S. House on Tuesday is expected to send to President Donald Trump’s desk an affordable housing bill aimed at lowering costs for homebuyers and reining in institutional investors,” CNBC reports.

“The legislation, dubbed the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, is a rare bipartisan measure in a deeply divided Congress. It advanced out of the Senate on Monday night by a vote of 85-5, after months of debate and different versions ping-ponging between the House and Senate. Lawmakers struck a final deal on the legislation last week.”

Los Angeles Times: Landmark housing bill advances in Congress with bipartisan support.

June 23, 2026 at 5:48 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The National Security Agency has lost access to a powerful AI model developed by Anthropic amid the Trump administration’s brawl with the start-up, depriving the intelligence agency of a tool that has impressed and alarmed its analysts with how good it is at finding software weaknesses,” the New York Times reports.

“This month the Trump administration imposed export controls on Anthropic, citing national security concerns. That action forced Anthropic to pull back the release of its most advanced models, known as Mythos 5 and Fable 5.”

June 23, 2026 at 5:45 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Supreme Court hit an inauspicious milestone Tuesday as it raced to finish its most divisive pending cases by the end of the month: It has already handed down more 6-3 decisions along ideological lines than it did for the entire term that ended last year,” CNN reports.

Internal Records Contradict Trump’s Sabotage Claims

June 23, 2026 at 5:03 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “The pool had been drained, resealed and then refilled by June 5. Four days later, Park Service workers discovered holes, cracks and peeling caulking in parts of the pool, along with cuts in sections of the foam, according to the documents…”

“By June 16, workers had noticed that chunks of blue sealant that covered the pool’s bottom were peeling and floating to the surface, the documents show…”

“The workers had also discovered that some devices installed to kill algae were not working as intended, according to the documents. And enormous algae blooms had turned portions of the pool bright green instead of dark blue.”
