Thune Calls Trump’s Pick of Bill Pulte ‘Weaponized’

June 2, 2026 at 2:51 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) told reporters “we don’t need a weaponized” director of national intelligence  when asked about President Trump’s appointment of Bill Pulte, NewsNation reports.

Said Thune: “We don’t need a weaponized DNI, we need professionals there.”

He added: “Again, I just heard about it. I’ll try and get more information about the current state of their thinking about that position. If he’s somebody they want in that position permanently, he’s got a — as you all know — a lengthy road ahead of him.”

The Stories Missing From Your Feed

You already know the problem: the same story can look completely different depending on where you read it — and some barely show up at all because algorithms decide what you see.

My goal for Political Wire is to help you get outside those filters — to understand not just what happened, but how it’s being covered and who might be missing it. That’s why I use and recommend Ground News.

It’s an app and website that brings together global news from across the political spectrum, showing each source’s bias, factuality, and ownership.

What I find especially useful is the Blindspot Feed. It highlights stories getting heavy coverage on one side but little on the other — a quick way to see what your usual news diet may be missing.

Bill Pulte Pick Sets Up Clash with Capitol Hill

June 2, 2026 at 2:25 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Punchbowl News: “President Donald Trump’s controversial choice of Bill Pulte to be the acting director of national intelligence is yet another huge provocation to Senate Republicans, deepening the rift between GOP lawmakers and the White House.”

“Pulte will remain the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency while he temporarily oversees the nation’s 18 intelligence agencies.”

“In the immediate term, Pulte’s selection will make it much harder for Democrats to support renewing FISA Section 702 by the June 12 deadline.”

Jill Biden Says Joe Couldn’t Have Served 4 More Years

June 2, 2026 at 1:00 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Former First Lady Jill Biden was confident her husband could serve another four years as president, when he was running for reelection. But on Tuesday morning, she admitted that, based on what she knows now, he couldn’t have,” The Wrap reports.

Said Biden: “Well, not from what I know now. I mean, my god, who knew? It was so shocking to get a cancer diagnosis. I mean, we had — you know, here I was, I’m looking through travel magazines like ‘Oh, where are we gonna go, what are we gonna do?’ And then we get this cancer diagnosis, and I think ‘What am I doing?!’ Like, our whole life is changed now.”

June 2, 2026 at 12:58 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, wearing a Knicks jersey, a baseball cap and mask, slipped into Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in March to watch his favorite basketball team take on the Nets.”

“Unlike past mayors, he didn’t sit courtside at the game or end up on the Jumbotron. Instead he cheered on the Knicks with his friends in the nosebleeds, barely recognized by other attendees.”

“In recent weeks, the mayor has still sat in the cheap seats but has also assumed a more prominent role as cheerleader-in-chief, using his political perch to root for the team as it marched toward a spot in the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs.”

What Graham Platner Did Wrong

June 2, 2026 at 11:49 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Trump to Block Grants If They Don’t Back His Agenda

June 2, 2026 at 11:34 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “The White House is seeking to exert more control over billions of dollars in annual government grants, aiming to restrict a vast swath of funding — in health, housing, science and transportation — so that it primarily serves the purposes and organizations politically aligned with President Trump.”

“While the administration says that its primary goal is to safeguard taxpayer money, its proposal amounts to a major escalation in its attempt to reimagine the nation’s spending, even as Congress and the courts continue to rebuke the president for abusing such powers.”

Trump Will Still Get Audit Immunity

June 2, 2026 at 11:32 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Another part of the deal banning any audits and tax-related probes of Trump, his family members and his companies that were started before the settlement isn’t affected by the decision to place the fund on hold.”

“I am concerned about one thing, and that is Republican turnout. In Georgia, Democrats turned out 150,000 more early voters than Republicans in the state — the red state — of Georgia. That is not a good sign to me.”

— GOP pollster Matt Towery, on Fox News.

“The donation, which has not previously been reported, shows how tightly intertwined Mr. Mellon has become with Mr. Kennedy and their shared work against vaccines. The adjacent parcels cover about 300 acres at the confluence of the Connecticut and Eightmile Rivers in Lyme and feature a pool, a tennis court and several buildings, property records show.”
