Democrats Could Get Shut Out of Solid Blue District

June 3, 2026 at 12:50 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Democrats awoke Wednesday to disquieting early returns in a solidly blue congressional district in Northern California,” the New York Times reports.

“None of their candidates in the nonpartisan primary was in the top two positions, raising the question of whether they could get shut out of the general election.”

“It also illustrated the potential for unusual outcomes in California’s nonpartisan primaries, in which Republicans, Democrats and independents all compete together, sometimes splitting their respective party’s votes and elevating an unexpected candidate.”

New York Times: “The fate of California’s primary election for governor was unsettled Wednesday morning, with election workers yet to count millions of ballots and three leading candidates holding out hope that they would win one of two available spots in the general election.”

June 3, 2026 at 12:45 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Rep. Andrew Ogles (R-TN) is blaming his staff for a homophobic post made on his X account, as Republicans issue rare criticism of one of their member’s social media activity,” the Washington Post reports.

Max Miller Reveals Bombshell Secret Audio of Ex-Wife

June 3, 2026 at 12:43 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Post: “Embattled Rep. Max Miller, whose increasingly complicated reelection is critical to the GOP holding the House, shared secret recordings he captured of his ex-wife to The Post as he tries to fend off allegations that he abused her and that he’s an unfit parent for their two-year-old.”

Said Miller: “The audio is key. She doesn’t know we have that audio. She doesn’t know that we have her admitting to her being bipolar.”

Trump Diverts Millions from National Parks

June 3, 2026 at 12:26 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

The Trump administration is diverting at least $90 million from entry fees to national parks such as Yellowstone and Yosemite to D.C. to fund a $1.6 million fireworks display — more than five times as much as what is usually spent on the Fourth of July pyrotechnics display — and $76 million to repair fountains including the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, the Washington Post reports.

Bari Weiss Explains Decision to Fire Scott Pelley

June 3, 2026 at 12:24 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

CBS News Editor in Chief Bari Weiss sought to explain her actions to “60 Minutes” staff on Wednesday, after firing correspondent Scott Pelley from the newsmagazine, the Washington Post reports.

Said Weiss: “I know I speak for myself, and I hope I speak for everyone here when I say that I’m only interested in working in a newsroom that is built on trust and mutual respect. That foundation was broken on Monday.”

Big Tech Candidates Fell Short

June 3, 2026 at 9:47 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Politico: “Vote tallying in California’s primaries could drag on for days, but one trend is already hard to miss: tech-bred and tech-backed candidates are striking out.”

Why Trump Picked ‘Little Trump’ as Intelligence Chief

June 3, 2026 at 9:45 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “Bill Pulte has no known national security experience, but he has something Trump values above all else: loyalty. In conversations with the president, Pulte made the case that he would be an unyielding advocate for the president’s foreign policy agenda and he signaled support for the war in Iran, according to people familiar with the matter.”

“Trump, who has in recent days expressed mounting frustration with his Republican critics, was sold. On Tuesday, he stunned many of his advisers when he announced on social media that he was installing Pulte as his top intelligence adviser.”

U.S. Falls Way Behind in Data Center Build Out

June 3, 2026 at 9:42 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “Tech companies are earmarking unprecedented sums of money to finance the build-out of massive data centers, with a planned $80 billion equity-raise by Google parent Alphabet being the latest example.”

“But even as the piles of capital secured have grown ever larger, the ability to deploy it in the artificial-intelligence race has become less certain. Supply-chain backlogs, permitting fights and availability of power supplies are among the issues that have caused the construction of data centers to fall behind targeted timelines, with the gap growing wider in recent months: A JPMorgan analysis last month found that more than 60% of data-center capacity planned for completion in 2027 isn’t yet under construction, and another 7% is delayed.”

Inside Trump’s Takeover of the U.S. Regulatory Machine

June 3, 2026 at 9:41 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “Trump has gotten involved in regulatory decisions big and small that once were made by independent agencies, according to interviews with business executives, lobbyists and administration officials, dramatically shifting the balance of power across Washington and reordering how influence campaigns are waged.”

“Political appointees by nature tend to be closely aligned with the president’s worldview. But former agency officials across administrations say it is highly unusual for presidents to be so intimately involved in the details of regulatory reviews. Previous presidents were careful to avoid the appearance of influencing agency decisions, typically making a point of not publicly weighing in on matters until reviews were complete.”

Even if Oil Prices Peak Soon, the Global Economy Will Slow

June 3, 2026 at 9:39 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “The conflict in the Middle East, which is significantly disrupting the world’s supply of energy and other critical commodities like fertilizer, will slow economic growth this year and raise inflation through 2027, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said on Wednesday.”

“The global economy’s growth will slow to 2.8 percent this year from 3.4 percent in 2025, before recovering to 3.1 percent next year, the organization said. Those projections assume energy prices have or will have peaked and then will gradually fall as energy production in the Persian Gulf recovers and air and shipping routes then become fully operational.”

Trump Says a Vance-Rubio Ticket Would Be ‘Unbeatable’

June 3, 2026 at 9:38 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump said that Vice President JD Vance and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio running together in 2028 would be “unbeatable,” The Guardian reports.

Said Trump: “I would think that JD and Marco as a team would be very hard to beat.”

He added: “It’s interesting, human thing, the human equation. So I watch them together, they get along great.”

Republicans Urge Donald Trump to Stay Focused

June 3, 2026 at 9:35 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump is increasingly unrestrained. Republicans in Congress are increasingly unimpressed,” Bloomberg reports.

“The two approaches, on vivid display over the past month, suggest their symbiotic yet often lopsided relationship is fraying under election year pressure.”

“And while the president brushes off midterm concerns, GOP lawmakers have a lot to lose in November. Their pushback the past few weeks suggests they’re fed up with being an afterthought.”

Trump Blames Court for Abandoned ‘Weaponization’ Fund

June 3, 2026 at 9:34 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Donald Trump said his administration was dropping plans for a $1.8 billion fund to pay victims of alleged government ‘weaponization’ only because a federal court temporarily blocked the move, which had become a political lightning rod,” Bloomberg reports.

Trump Has Given Up

June 3, 2026 at 8:05 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Paul Krugman: “Donald Trump will never admit that his gratuitous Iran war has been a total disaster. But the debacle has clearly broken him. So we are now saddled with a president who has given up governing, but will maintain his grip on power wherever he can. And his power will be exclusively focused on rage and revenge…”

“Trump appears to have given up on governing — even governing aimed at consolidating his own power and legacy. He wants to punish everyone he imagines has wronged him but has lost all interest in making the government work, even for nefarious purposes.”

Trump Claims Iran Agreed to Have No Nuclear Weapons

June 3, 2026 at 6:58 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump said Iran has “already agreed” it will not have a nuclear weapon, CNBC reports.

Said Trump: “I mean, now they can change their mind, but that was one of the things they’ve had to agree, they’ve agreed to that. That was the big thing.”

Trump’s Intel Pick Endangers Spy Powers Bill

June 3, 2026 at 6:55 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Donald Trump’s pick of a political ally as acting director of national intelligence could jeopardize the passage of a key government spy powers renewal just as lawmakers were closing in on a deal,” Politico reports.

“Trump’s choice of Bill Pulte Tuesday evoked the outrage of Democrats and skepticism of some Republicans on Capitol Hill. Pulte has no intelligence background and has used his current perch as a housing finance regulator to push for investigations into Trump’s perceived political enemies.”
