McConnell Blocks Bill to Protect Mueller

November 14, 2018 at 4:31 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A bill that would make it harder for President Trump to remove special counsel Robert Mueller was rejected on the floor of the Senate,” BuzzFeed News reports.

“Republican Sen. Jeff Flake and Democratic Sen. Chris Coons tried to bring the bill forward for debate, but they needed unanimous consent from their fellow senators. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused, meaning the bill will remain in limbo.”

“In an attempt to put pressure on McConnell to change his mind, Flake announced that he will not vote to confirm any more of Trump’s judicial nominees until the Senate gets a vote on the Mueller bill. Flake is a member of the Judiciary Committee, where Republicans have just a one-vote majority, and he could be key to confirming judges both in committee and in the full Senate this year.”

Trump Explains How Voter Fraud Happens

November 14, 2018 at 4:12 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump explained to the Daily Caller how he believes — without any proof — that some vote multiple times in an attempt to influence an election.

Said Trump: “When people get in line that have absolutely no right to vote and they go around in circles. Sometimes they go to their car, put on a different hat, put on a different shirt, come in and vote again. Nobody takes anything. It’s really a disgrace what’s going on.”

Trump Thinks You Need an ID to Buy Cereal

November 14, 2018 at 3:49 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump in an interview with the Daily Caller:

“If you buy a box of cereal — you have a voter ID. They try to shame everybody by calling them racist, or calling them something, anything they can think of, when you say you want voter ID. But voter ID is a very important thing.”

Washington Post: “Amazingly, Trump has made this very odd assertion about needing an ID to buy groceries before. He said something similar in August and, at the time, the media assessed the validity of the claim. It is, uh, not valid.”

Trump’s Rallies In Montana Apparently Backfired

November 14, 2018 at 3:33 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “President Trump focused heavily on Montana this year, holding four rallies there since the summer. His visits, and the publicity they generated, likely are a central reason for high turnout. Vote tallies exceeded 2016 presidential levels in 15 of the state’s 56 counties.”

“But Mr. Trump appeared to have an effect on both parties. In 10 of the counties where vote tallies topped 2016 totals, Democratic Sen. Jon Tester received a similar or greater share of the vote than he did in his last election, and he won more than 50% of the vote statewide.”

Mueller Probes Witness Intimidation by Roger Stone

November 14, 2018 at 3:24 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Special counsel Robert Mueller’s office is exploring whether longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone tried to intimidate and discredit a witness who is contradicting Mr. Stone’s version of events about his contacts with WikiLeaks,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“In grand jury sessions and interviews, prosecutors have repeatedly asked about emails, text messages and online posts involving Mr. Stone and his former friend, New York radio personality Randy Credico… Mr. Stone has asserted that Mr. Credico was his backchannel to WikiLeaks, a controversial transparency group, an assertion Mr. Credico denies.”

Stone Repeatedly Claimed Contact with Trump

November 14, 2018 at 1:52 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Roger Stone claimed on several occasions during the 2016 presidential race that he was in communication with Donald Trump and his campaign, including declaring that he on average spoke with Trump weekly,” CNN reports.

“The nature of that communication is now part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the election. Stone is facing scrutiny for his claims to have had a backchannel to WikiLeaks during the campaign. Particularly, investigators are looking into whether Stone shared information that he believed was from WikiLeaks with members of Trump’s presidential campaign,”

Ranked-Choice Count Resumes In Maine

November 14, 2018 at 1:49 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A federal judge said he will not decide until Thursday whether to intervene in the legal dispute over Maine’s 2nd congressional district race, setting the stage for a potential ranked-choice vote count on Wednesday,” the Portland Press Herald reports.

“That may give Secretary of State Matt Dunlap’s office time to determine the ranked-choice winner before any potential court order to stop the process.”

Trump Has Little Support for Re-Election

November 14, 2018 at 12:14 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

A new Monmouth poll finds a little more than 3 in 10 Americans want to see President Trump win a second term in the White House.

“Those who don’t want to see Trump reelected predictably varies by party, but 16% — not an insignificant number — of Republicans say Trump should be a one-term leader… while 92% of Democrats and 58% of independents said the same.”

“The California Democrat brushed aside Rep. Seth Moulton’s suggestion Tuesday night that he is ‘100 percent confident‘ that she does not have the votes to be speaker.”

Said Pelosi: “I’m a busy person, but I will be the speaker of the House no matter what he said.”

November 14, 2018 at 10:58 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Fox News is supporting CNN’s lawsuit against the Trump administration over the White House’s revocation of Jim Acosta’s press pass, Axios reports.

From a statement: “Fox News supports CNN in its legal effort to regain its White House reporter’s press credential. We intend to file an amicus brief with the U.S. District Court. Secret Service passes for working White House journalists should never be weaponized. While we don’t condone the growing antagonistic tone by both the President and the press at recent media avails, we do support a free press, access and open exchanges for the American people.”

November 14, 2018 at 10:56 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

A French government spokesman said that President Trump, who attacked his French counterpart in a series of tweets on Tuesday, should have shown “common decency” instead since the country was mourning the anniversary of deadly attacks in Paris, Reuters reports.

Said spokesman Benjamin Griveaux: “Yesterday was November 13, we were marking the murder of 130 of our people. So I’ll reply in English: ‘common decency’ would have been appropriate.”
