“Reality-TV kingpin Mark Burnett and his associates say that they aren’t pressuring anyone over a series of damaging leaks about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s behavior on The Apprentice. But three show staffers tell The Daily Beast that’s just not so. According to these sources, Burnett’s office has been warning his staff and Apprentice alumni that if they leak Trump-related news or footage to the press, they are putting themselves in dire professional—and possibly legal—danger.”
A Mom In the White House
Louis C.K. on the 2016 presidential election:
Quote of the Day
“I had a team of people who were relentless, totally in the head of what Trump might do. A lot of this comes down to who gets into whose head. It’s like an athletic contest or maybe a high-stakes entertainment performance.”
— Hillary Clinton, quoted by People Magazine, on how she prepared for the debates.
Communist Party Seeks Trump’s Defeat
The Communist Party USA urges a vote for Hillary Clinton:
“Bernie Sanders is right. This is not the year to cast a protest vote.”
Militia Groups Stand Ready to Protest ‘Stolen’ Election
Reuters: “As the most divisive presidential election in recent memory nears its conclusion, some armed militia groups are preparing for the possibility of a stolen election on Nov. 8 and civil unrest in the days following a victory by Democrat Hillary Clinton.”
“They say they won’t fire the first shot, but they’re not planning to leave their guns at home, either.”
“Trump’s populist campaign has energized militia members… Trump has repeatedly warned that the election may be ‘rigged,’ and has said he may not respect the results if he does not win. At least one paramilitary group, the Oath Keepers, has called on members to monitor voting sites for signs of fraud.”
Politico: “Energized by Trump’s candidacy and alarmed by his warnings of a ‘rigged election,’ white nationalist, alt-right and militia movement groups are planning to come out in full force on Tuesday, creating the potential for conflict at the close of an already turbulent campaign season.”
GOP Majority Looks Assured in House
Cook Political Report: “The presidential race may be inducing whiplash, but the House battleground remains relatively stable in the final week. We rate only 40 House races in Lean or Toss Up, and Democrats would need to sweep 35 of them to win control, so Republicans remain overwhelming favorites to hold onto their majority. But there is still plenty of uncertainty about the size of that majority: Democrats could gain anywhere from 5 to 20 seats.”
Video Shows Trump with Mob Figure He Denied Knowing
A newly uncovered video appears to contradict Donald Trump’s claim that he never knew a high-stakes gambler who was banned from New Jersey casinos for alleged ties to organized crime, Yahoo News reports.
“The reputed mob figure, Robert LiButti, can be seen standing alongside Trump in the front row of a 1988 ‘WrestleMania’ match in Atlantic City, N.J. LiButti wasn’t there by accident, according to his daughter, Edith Creamer, who also attended the event.”
Said Creamer: “We were his guests.”
Tracking Poll Shows a Dead Heat
The ABC News-Washington Post tracking poll shows the presidential race is a dead heat nationally, 46% t0 46%.
Key finding: Donald Trump is seen more honest and trustworthy than Hillary Clinton, 46% to 38%.
GOP Senator Says Clinton Could Be Impeached
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) told the Beloit Daily News that he believed Hillary Clinton could be impeached if she becomes president.
In referring to a statute on concealing official records, Johnson said: “She purposefully circumvented it. This was willful concealment and destruction. I would say yes, high crime or misdemeanor. I believe she is in violation of both laws.”
Bush Family May Be Voting for Clinton
George P. Bush says he’s the only member of his powerful political family who will be voting straight-ticket Republican and says his grandfather and uncle, both former presidents, could “potentially” cast ballots for Hillary Clinton, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Woman Born Before Suffrage Votes for Clinton
“A 102-year-old woman born six years before women could vote in the United States very publicly cast her ballot Tuesday for the first female major party presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton,” Politico reports.
GOP Lawmakers Gear Up to Investigate Clinton
Politico: “If the GOP wins either or both chambers of Congress next week, and Clinton takes the White House, she’s likely to come under investigation by Capitol Hill from Day One, or possibly before she’s even sworn in. FBI Director James Comey’s recent decision to revisit the probe of her email setup, and an assortment of Justice sources who’ve leaked to the press since Friday, have armed GOP lawmakers with more than enough ammunition to rev up their own investigations, say Republican sources on Capitol Hill.”
“The dynamic could sour relations between Clinton and Capitol Hill from the get-go, dousing any hope of even a brief honeymoon for Clinton should she defeat Donald Trump next week.”
No ‘Hidden Vote’ Seen Among Undecided
Mark Blumenthal: “Other measures yield no evidence of a hidden vote or an impending late ‘break’ of the undecided or uncertain voters toward either Clinton or Trump. Whether we focus on the totally undecided 2 percent or the 9 percent that also includes the uncertain, these potentially persuadable voters divide nearly evenly in terms of their partisan leanings and impressions of Clinton and Trump.”
Clinton Builds Unlikely Firewall
New York Times: “Now, even as Hillary Clinton contends with inflamed Democratic anxiety over renewed scrutiny of her private email server, these once-red areas — a string of states that voted twice for George W. Bush — are providing an unexpected firewall for her campaign.”
“Democrats are already strongly confident of victory in three of them — Colorado, Nevada and Virginia — and believe that a fourth, North Carolina, is likely to break their way as well. Added to the party’s daunting advantage in the Electoral College, these states have impeded Mr. Trump’s path to amassing the 270 electoral votes needed to win, limiting his ability to exploit Mrs. Clinton’s late vulnerabilities and forcing him to scrounge for unlikely support in solidly Democratic places like Michigan and New Mexico.”
Independents Narrowly Back Clinton
A new Bloomberg poll finds Hillary Clinton holds a slim advantage with independents, 39% to 35%, a group Republican Mitt Romney won by five percentage points in 2012.

FBI Kept Cases Involving Trump and Clinton Quiet
“The F.B.I. and Justice Department faced a hard decision in two investigations this past summer that had the potential to rock the presidential election. The first case involved Donald J. Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, and secretive business dealings in Ukraine. The second focused on Hillary Clinton’s relationships with donors to her family foundation,” the New York Times reports.
“At the urging of the Justice Department, the F.B.I. agreed not to actively pursue either case so close to the election.”
“Against this backdrop, the decision of the F.B.I. director, James Comey, to send a letter to Congress last week about a renewed inquiry concerning Mrs. Clinton’s emails is not just a departure from longstanding policy; it has plunged the F.B.I. and the Justice Department directly into the election, precisely what Justice officials were trying to avoid.”
Clinton Starts Advertising In New States
Hillary Clinton’s campaign started new ad campaigns in four states: Colorado, Virginia, Michigan and New Mexico, the Wall Street Journal reports.
“The campaign hadn’t previously aired any ads in the latter two states, where polling shows Mrs. Clinton with strong leads. Those messages are being bolstered by a $6 million ad buy from Priorities USA Action, Mrs. Clinton’s allied super PAC, which expanded its buys in Florida and Pennsylvania, and for the first time bought ads in Wisconsin.”
