Corker to Appear with Trump at Rally

July 5, 2016 at 7:30 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) will join Donald Trump at his campaign rally in North Carolina, NBC News reports.

“Corker’s campaign stop with Trump follows personal meetings Trump held with Indiana Governor Mike Pence and Iowa Senator Joni Ernst over the holiday weekend. Those visits were described as part social and substantive in the running mate search.”

Corker Distances Himself from Trump

June 14, 2016 at 3:35 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 92 Comments

Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), who has been mentioned as a possible running mate for Donald Trump, told reporters that Trump’s speech following the worst mass shooting in American history “wasn’t the type of speech one would expect” from a presidential candidate, USA Today reports.

Said Corker: “In an effort to be constructive, I have offered public encouragement at important times, but I must admit that I am personally discouraged by the results.”

Corker Seen as Viable Trump Pick

May 10, 2016 at 9:10 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 53 Comments

Mike Allen: “Republican insiders are buzzing about Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), chair of Senate Foreign Relations, as an attractive, plausible vice-presidential pick for Trump. Corker — age 63, to Trump’s 69 — surprised many in Washington by lavishing on-camera praise on Trump’s foreign-policy speech two weeks ago. Last week, Corker told USA Today‘s Mary Troyan, who covers Tennessee for Gannett, that he ‘offered to help Donald Trump develop a foreign policy platform, making him one of the few senators to publicly embrace Trump … Trump called him last week and he and Trump’s campaign staff have talked since then.'”

A Republican who knows Corker well said: “He’s an independent guy – kind of a tough guy – who’s not afraid to swim upstream. He’s frustrated by being in the Senate and not getting anything done. I think he’d really lean into this. He’s not afraid to buck the old guard. And he’s no dummy: He jumped out on the Trump thing early.”

Corker Rules Out White House Bid

February 10, 2015 at 9:45 am EST By Taegan Goddard 27 Comments

Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) told Nashville Public Radio that he won’t run for president in 2016.

Said Corker: “I have no plans to pursue that. I’m very challenged with my current role as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee. It’s involved me in things beyond what I ever anticipated… I haven’t thought of it by the way, in months and months and months, as I saw the field shaping up in a good way.”
