Pence Doctor Resigns After Jackson Debacle

May 4, 2018 at 2:27 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Vice President Mike Pence’s physician has resigned, the latest fallout from the collapse of Ronny Jackson’s nomination for secretary of Veterans Affairs,” Politico reports.

“Dr. Jennifer Peña, who like Jackson is a military physician detailed to the White House, was among those who detailed claims of professional misconduct against Jackson to senators considering his nomination.”

“Peña claimed in memos that Jackson may have violated Karen Pence’s patient privacy rights by sharing details of a medical incident involving the second lady to chief of staff John Kelly. The memos were first reported by CNN.”

Pence’s Doctor Alerted White House About Ronny Jackson

April 30, 2018 at 7:21 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Vice President Mike Pence’s physician privately raised alarms within the White House last fall that President Trump’s doctor may have violated federal privacy protections for a key patient — Pence’s wife, Karen — and intimidated the vice president’s doctor during angry confrontations over the episode,” CNN reports.

“The previously unreported incident is the first sign that serious concerns about Ronny Jackson’s conduct had reached the highest levels of the White House as far back as September — months before White House aides furiously defended Jackson’s professionalism, insisted he had been thoroughly vetted and argued allegations of misconduct amounted to unsubstantiated rumors.”

In a statement, Jackson called the allegations against him “completely false and fabricated.”

Axios: “Trump told Fox & Friends that he knows who he’s going to nominate next, though he refused to provide a name. He said it was someone with ‘political capabilities.'”

“GOP support for the Veterans Affairs nominee has cratered in the face of allegations of misconduct as White House physician, who already faced serious doubts over his lack of management experience,” Politico reports.

“At this point, it would take a miraculous comeback by Jackson to survive at least two more weeks of scrutiny and growing discomfort among Republican senators over his nomination.”

Said Trump: “I don’t want to put a man through a process like this. It’s too ugly, and it’s too disgusting.”

The New York Times also quotes Trump: “The fact is, I wouldn’t do it. What does he need it for? To be abused by a number of politicians?”

Karen Tumulty: “Oh, Trump still insists he supports the well-liked doctor, but make no mistake about it: Jackson has been shown the door.”
