Paul Says Adelson Not Planning Attack Ads

March 5, 2015 at 8:19 am EST By Taegan Goddard 17 Comments

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) says Sheldon Adelson has assured him that he has no plans to spend money against Paul’s expected presidential campaign, National Journal reports.

Said Paul: “I sat down with he and his wife yesterday and they assured me there was no truth to that. That was somebody spreading falsehoods.”

Adelson Won’t Back a Candidate Until Next Year

February 19, 2015 at 12:52 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 17 Comments

Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson won’t get involved in the presidential primary contest until “well into 2016,” his top political adviser told Bloomberg.

Said adviser Andy Abboud: “Any support of a presidential candidate is at least a year away.”

“What Adelson does matters. The 81-year-old billionaire casino owner spent more money on the 2012 presidential race than anyone else in the country, and his every move is being closely watched for signs that he has a favorite this time around.”

If You’re on Political Lists, You’re on Scam Lists Too

If you’re a Political Wire reader, you already know that political donors, activists, and even casual news junkies wind up on all kinds of lists. And scammers love those lists. The BBC recently caught a scam call center on hidden cameras where workers openly laughed about tricking people — one bragged he’d made $250,000 off victims.

Here’s the part they don’t say out loud: scammers don’t pick numbers at random. They buy data from brokers — sometimes the same data brokers who collect political donor info, petition signatures, email sign-ups and even the sites you visit.

That’s why I recommend Incogni. They contact data brokers on your behalf, demand removal, monitor for new exposures, and follow up automatically until your information is gone.

Billionaires Issue Warnings to Their Parties

November 10, 2014 at 6:00 am EST By Taegan Goddard 1 Comment

“The billionaire political kingmakers planning to bankroll much of the 2016 presidential campaign spoke out together Sunday with blunt warnings on key issues for their respective parties,” the Washington Post reports.

“Haim Saban, a media mogul and close Democratic ally of Hillary Rodham Clinton, criticized President Obama’s outreach to Iran, declaring that ‘we’ve shown too many carrots and a very small stick.'”

“Sheldon Adelson, a casino magnate who is likely to tap into his fortune in an effort to elect a Republican to the White House, upbraided many in the GOP for their opposition to legalizing millions of undocumented immigrants.”
