Stuart Stevens, who was Mitt Romney’s chief strategist in 2012, emailed these comments in response to the change of heart by fellow GOP strategist Alex Castellanos:
I have tremendous respect for Alex and he’s more right than wrong. And maybe I’ve got this all wrong, but I think Trump is a ridiculous figure as a presidential candidate and potential nominee or president. He’s temperamentally unbalanced, picks public fights for no point and seems to have no ideology other than worship of self. As has been said, “He believes he’s a self-made man and worships his creator.” Except he’s not self-made.
Like attacking George W. Bush on national security, Donald Trump will prove to Republicans that there’s a reason he paid $100K to get Hillary Clinton to his wedding. He’s not going to be nominee.
