House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) won the Republican nomination for speaker.
Emmer won on the fifth ballot, beating Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), 117 to 97.
Emmer now has to piece together a coalition to win 217 votes on the House floor. However, five Republicans voted for another candidate in the last round and one voted present.
