“Dozens of former classmates of Senator JD Vance of Ohio spent Tuesday night’s vice-presidential debate donating money to a fund for Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, raising more than $10,000,” the New York Times reports.
“In interviews, some donors characterized the contributions as an effort to repair part of the damage the Trump-Vance campaign — and Mr. Vance himself — caused by spreading bogus rumors that migrants were stealing and eating pets.”
