“The White House on Wednesday tried to soften the most extreme elements of President Donald Trump’s declaration that he wanted to take ownership of Gaza, floating a more limited vision of U.S. involvement in the region,” the Washington Post reports.
“The confusion about Trump’s intentions for a burning conflict that he has vowed to end was a first sign of how he may pursue international diplomacy in his second term: with a mixture of shock tactics, extreme proposals and shifting visions that destabilize friends and foes alike. It still wasn’t clear whether he was offering an opening gambit in what would be a broader negotiation about Gaza’s future or conjuring a vision he hoped would come fully to fruition.”
