Mark Carney on High-Stakes Visit to the White House

“Just days after winning a stunning election on an anti-Trump platform, Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada on Tuesday will meet with President Trump, who has imposed tariffs on Canada, America’s closest ally, next-door neighbor and top trading partner, and repeatedly threatened its sovereignty,” the New York Times reports.

“With the relationship between the two countries in tatters, the two leaders will sit down in the White House for their first face-to-face discussion, a high stakes encounter that could easily go sideways.”

Playbook: “How will the two men react when the press pool starts throwing some of Trump’s past quotes at them as they sit side by side in the Oval Office?”

Goddard spent more than a decade as managing director and chief operating officer of a prominent investment firm in New York City. Previously, he was a policy adviser to a U.S. Senator and Governor.

Goddard is also co-author of You Won - Now What? (Scribner, 1998), a political management book hailed by prominent journalists and politicians from both parties. In addition, Goddard's essays on politics and public policy have appeared in dozens of newspapers across the country.

Goddard earned degrees from Vassar College and Harvard University. He lives in New York with his wife and three sons.
